Rain can be a very odd thing, here at HRP… but you can’t keep a good thing down.  Mb Stables, The Big Barn, champion among champions, the conditioner that we all wish we could be… perhaps, without a needle, the Baffert we all want to become… well, they take another one as Extreme Jet overcame rain, a wide trip and 19 other combatants to produce a dominating win in the 2025 KYD, galloping under the wire clear by three lengths while stopping the clock at 2:074, for the mile and a quarter.  The main CD oval was listed as sloppy.  Perhaps it was J R Velazquez’s idea to let the black altered 3yo run his own race… relaxed, out from the traffic and the issues that could stop him… but the clear path set him up perfectly for a run down the lane that was absolutely magnificent, catching the leader just inside the furlong marker, and then stamping this race as his own, running away in the final strides as much the best on this soggy evening.  Congratulations to Mb Stables for this, their third KYD victory, and twelfth overall TC win.  Bravo!!

Wood Duck Stables was the other trainer with three entrants and Boss Spearman held up their end of the bargain, that one taking the lead into the lane, but nobody was stopping the winner today… still, The Boss ran a huge race to take the runner-up spot, holding off the Grimley trained Fighter Ship at the wire, that one with a severely troubled trip and every excuse in the book could be given to this one.  It was another neck to the winner’s stable mate in fourth as Gold State took down the minor money.  Sixteen lengths covered the field of twenty, and the AEs were the only scratches.

The field loaded into the gate for the 2025 KYD… all in line, and off and running on this cold dreary day in Louisville… under the wire the first time by the crowd and a four-horse battle for the early lead.  Zions Bet from the far outside, Salah next to that one, Daemon and Tropical Surge down towards the rail, right in behind that group, Red Font, stable mate Boss Spearman to his inside and another, Brooklyn Bash in the three path, Royal Devil on the outside of that group.  Another length to Fawkes along the rail, Dragon and Decal outside of that one, another half-length to Fighter Ship on the outside of Street Magician, In Good Order along the inside, Without Warning just behind that trio, then another half-length to Gold State, Poor Scoer outside of that one, the The Golden Age and Extreme Jet was the early trailer.

The field made their way around the clubhouse turn and moved onto the backside, the opening half in :48.31, Daemon showing the way by a neck, Zions Bet on his outside, Tropical Surge his inside and Salah still right there, a length to Boss Spearman on the rail, Red Font to his flank, and Brooklyn Bash on the outside as those stable mates continued to move together, a gap of two back to Fawkes, Royal Devil on his hip, another two and a half lengths to Dragon on the outside, In Good Order saving ground, Street Magician on his outside, Fighter ship four wide and Without Warning between horses.  Another length, out wide, to Gold State, The Golden Age, Alydar to his inside and Poor Scoer was now at the back of the field.

Down the backside, nearing the far turn and four furlongs left to run… six furlongs in 1:14.55, and Zions Bet showing the way three wide, Daemon looming on his inside, Tropical Surge still on the rail, then a half-length to the trio of Red Font, Salah and Boss Spearman, another length and a half to Brooklyn Bash four wide, down to the rail for Fawkes, Dragon a length off of that one, another length to Royal Devil, Fighter Ship out wide, another length to the four-some of Without Warning, Street Magician and In Good Order to his inside, Extreme Jet moving up on his outside, another length to The Golden Age in the two path, out wider to Gold State, Alydar on the rail, Decal and Poor Scoer.

Around the far turn and moving into the lane and past the three-sixteenth’s pole, the pace was falling apart, the closers were flying home, and it was getting interesting at CD… Boss Spearman hit the front with his stable mate Red Font on the outside of him…Daemon and Zions Bet headed in the wrong direction along the inside, Fawkes coming off of the rail, Brooklyn Bash trying to find more, and now Extreme Jet on the far outside flying down the center of the track.  Fighter Ship trying to follow that one, Tropical Surge skimming the paint, with In Good Order next to him and out wider to Without Warning.  Salah, Gold State and The Golden Age out in the center of the track, Street Magician in behind that trio, then outside to Alydar, back towards the inside to Dragon and Royal Devil, then a gap to Decal and Poor Scoer.

In the blink of an eye, this race was over for all intents and purposes… as if he knew what his name really meant, Extreme Jet rocketed past any and everything in front of him, and it was clear that the Mb Stable celebration could begin… but there was a lot of horse racing to go… Boss Spearman trying to find more, Red Font still there… but Fighter Ship was now moving up as Fawkes appeared to be stuck in one gear.  Likewise, Brooklyn Bash not going on with it, then Without Warning and Gold State… the others, well it was time for a bath and some rest.

Deep stretch and to the wire, this was Extreme Jet’s race and the black thunderbolt went under the wire clear by three widening lengths.  Boss Spearman continued on well to take the second spot, a quarter length better than Fighter Ship in third.  It was a neck back to Gold State in fourth, and the same to In Good Order fifth, that one nosing out Without Warning in sixth.  It wouldn’t be a horse race without a dead-heat, and we got it as Fawkes and Brooklyn Bash tied for the seventh spot, a head in front of The Golden Age in ninth, a nose to Red Font tenth, Alydar eleventh, Street Magician twelfth, Daemon tiring to be thirteenth, same for Zions Bet in fourteenth, Tropical Surge fifteenth, Salah sixteenth, Royal Devil seventeenth, Dragon eighteenth, Poor Scoer nineteenth and Decal was last.

Extreme Jet is a black 3yo gelded son of Con Will Con – Extreme Warrior by Extremo, and he was bred in Florida by Arkansas Elite.  Mb Stables purchased him privately for $800.000 in November of 2024, and he has three wins for this juggernaut barn.  Overall, he shows five wins and a pair of thirds from his eight lifetime starts and now has $4,064.400 in lifetime earnings.    Congrats, and… on to Baltimore!
