The PIM Special – Grade III
1 3/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $250.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Ey Mon Arindel Saez L
Last year’s Preakness runner up had been beautifully handled leading into this race and lived up to all the hype in his return to black type company. This was a big message to his likely rivals in November as he ran out a comfortable one length winner from a sticky draw showing his recent works to be a sign of things to come. Clearly the trainer has got to grips with some of the inconsistency he showed last year and even at this early stage I would be putting him among the favorites for the BC Classic.
2nd The Martian Mo Mentum Farm Van Dyke D
This was a big race for the four-year-olds and signs perhaps that the development curve may have taken a tick forward for last year’s three-year-olds as both the first and the second handled their older rivals pretty comfortably. The BC Derby winner last year, he too had been handled with kid gloves after that early success and it looks like that training method will be paying off in the next couple of months.
3rd Proxy D J C Racing Stables Silvera Ru
The wide gate speed push saw this one go to the lead either following instructions or doing the dutiful thing under the race engines guidance. Either way he ran a cracker to hold on to third.
4th On Schedule Mb Stables Lopez P
This one looked like a real marathon type last year winning two over the twelve furlongs but on this new engine he looks like a non-stayer this year. On pace again he just didn’t finish off and faded away a little tamely in a pretty disappointing effort. I am sure the champion trainer will take him home and analyze this and he will be back to winning ways before long.
