2YO Fillies 119 Lbs (plus penalties) 6 1/2 Furlongs
#1 Cellini (Fractious/J.J. Castellano): Homebred filly powered home to break her maiden at second asking. Like that she shaded 12-seconds in that 6-furlong event and drew off to win by daylight. Draws the rail for her first assignment versus winners and the barn is rolling right now.
#2 Gulfstream 5 (Oquinn Farm/I. Ortiz Jr): Filly proved the real deal when she took a SUN MSW in her bow before besting allowance runners back in June. Got shuffled a bit further back last-out but rallied to grab a slice in the $225.000 Debutante at CD. Gets an extra half-furlong to work with and should mowing them down late.
#3 Vanessa (Royalty Stables/J.L. Ortiz): Filly won impressively in her debut down at GP back in June; however, that was against FL-bred lasses. Takes on some of the best of her crop in her first crack at winners, but the conditioner believes she could relish the extra ground she gets here.
#4 Siniburn (Arindel/J. Rosario): Proved a quick study when breaking her maiden at second asking. Didn’t fare too well in her first try against winners, but she’s working like a good thing in preparation for this one.
#5 Remember This Day (Pan Farms/K. Carmouche): Speaking of quick studies, lass debuted at GG against Cal-bred runners before breaking her maiden 2nd out. Validated her quality when she was runner-up in the aforementioned Debutante at CD. Not the flashiest worker; however, she keeps producing better efforts as she gets more experience in the afternoons.
#6 Sitting Pretty (Arindel/J. Lezcano): Aptly named filly won on debut in April before returning in June at BEL. She didn’t win that day as she had to settle for a DH 2nd in the $150.000 Astoria; however, the winner came back here to score on opening day in an event similar to this one. Won’t need to find much to make her presence felt here.
#7 Fake Sunset (Arkansas Elite/F. Geroux): The only stakes-winner in the field, filly enters 3-2-0-0 after taking the aforementioned Debutante. Faces several of those foes again in here, and, while she didn’t beat them by much, they know she will be flying late.
#8 Jawaher (D J C Racing Stables/E. Cancel): Runner-up in her April debut, she returned a month later to graduate before being beaten three-quarters of a length in the Debutante. Like a few of these drawn to her inside, she wants to be close early, so her trip will be one of the key aspects to watch. Has yet to run poorly in three tries.
#9 Humpday Hanny (Jive Inc./J.R. Leparoux): Took her CT debut back in the last week of May, but we haven’t seen her since. Trainer knows her better now, so expect to see some improvement in only her 2nd career start for a sharp outfit.
#10 Elle (Wood Duck Stables/T. McCarthy): One of the early “buzz horses” in this crop, she didn’t waste any time in proving the hype was real. Winning debut on April 2 was validated with a good 3rd-placed effort in the FT Debutante. Always been an impressive worker, she’s proving she has the mettle to match her talent.
#11 Beat Down (TwinTowersRacing/J. Alvarado): Took a SA MSW on debut back in April before trying winners in the Astoria. Came home 8th on that June day but she deserves another crack here. She has enough gas to clear the vast majority of those inside of her in the gate, but she may have to work to get that position.
#12 Pretentious (Fractious/D. Davis): Filly was runner-up on debut before trying the Astoria in her 2nd start. She came home a respectable 5th in that event before graduating a month ago in a WO MSW. Wasn’t embarrassed when she tried black-type runners and she has the gas to work out a trip, even from this wide gate.
Final Analysis: 2yo racing is always a toss-up; however, we’ll call it 7-10-5 in the 19th edition of the G3 Adirondack. Good luck to all involved!
