Well aint’ that something…  after using her speed to wire an ALW field at RP in her previous race, 45/1 shot Family Myth was rated back so far that I actually thought she broke down… then came flying like a freight train to take the Dowager (GIII) at KEE, getting the marathon mile and a half in 2:25.96, and setting the tote board ablaze!  Copper Piping completed the $90.40 exacta.

 The field of four loaded quickly and were away with Golden Gates showing her early speed, Spirit Woman from the rail, Copper Fitting just in behind that duo, and Family Myth off a step slowly.

Around the far turn and down the lane the first time by, a mile to run, and Golden Gates showing the way by a half length.  Spirit Woman clinging to the rail, a big gap of eight back to Copper Piping and Family Myth now trialing by ten lengths.

Now moving around the clubhouse turn and nearing the back stretch, five and a half furlongs to run and Golden Gates continuing to set the pace.  Spirit Woman continuing to keep the pressure on that one, a gap of five back to Family Myth, now showing a bit of life, and Copper Piping was the trailer, eight length from front to back.

Down the backside and nearing the far turn, they had three and a half furlongs to run, and Golden Gates had lead every step of the way and was now in front by a length and a half.  Spirit Woman was looking a bit tired as Family Myth was now moving forward, looking dangerous, and Copper Piping still at the back, five lengths from the leader.

Into the lane and nearing the furlong marker, this race was changing complexion…  Family Myth, once ten lengths out of it, was now up to take the lead by a length and a half.  Golden Gate trying to find more, Copper Piping wound up and starting to make her move forward as Spirit Woman was headed in the wrong direction.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, Family Myth just cruising along and went under the wire in front by a comfortable length.  Copper Piping closed well for the place, then Golden Gate four more lengths back in third with Spirit Woman closing this one out.

Family Myth is a 3yo bay filly by Abner Malbrain – Mythical Cat by Thornton Mellon, and she was bred in LA by Razorback Racing.  Claimed for a mere $6.250, she now has four wins from thirteen starts, three of those under the training of Barcelona Farms, and she shows $131.020 in earnings – this being her first stakes score.
