Down to the KY TN border and we head to KD where the dog-leg and the undulating course makes this place one of a kind. We get a nice field of sprinting matrons as we look at the field for the KD Ladies Sprint (GIII) with a hefty purse of $600.000, and that brings out some very nice horse-flesh. I’m going to take Z Laffy One as my top choice in this one. How can you fault a 13-win race-mare? She comes into this one with back-to-back wins including the prep race for this one up at ELP. I’ll put Gummy in the middle of this one as well. She looked good at SAR taking the Caress (GIII) last out, so you know she’s sharp. It wouldn’t be a big purse race without a dose of Mb Stables so let’s give Data Overload a big look as well. She just missed in her last two, and looks to be sitting on a big race and a win.
This is a tricky track so anything could happen… let’s grab a wobble pop and head down to the rail to take this one in.
Here’s The Field –
She’s won half of her eight seasonal starts and comes into this one after winning the Coronation Cup on a wet SAR turf course, then was second in the Galway over the same sod. She’s still looking for her first grades win, and was fourth in the Monrovia (GII) at SA back in early summer. She has a chance here, no doubt.
She was claimed for $20.000 just three starts back and hasn’t missed a check since changing hands. A third and a win when entered back for a tag, and did all of the heavy lifting before being caught late in that high-end Alw race at SAR on a soggy course. This is obviously a step up in class, but she’s running well.
They pulled the hostile takeover for a mere $12.500 three starts back and that’s proven to be a smart tag as she’s been tough in all three starts, winning two of those including the Smart N Fancy at SAR last out. She comes from far back so she will need some pace to run at, but that shouldn’t be an issue… look for her late in this one.
The big barn has an interesting entry in this one as she’s been close in a number of starts this year, but her only win came vs Alw types at TAM back in Mar. Since then, she was fifth in the Wiley (GI) going two turns, then went back to the main track to be the runner-up in both the Desert Stormer (GIII) and the Great Lady M (GII), both sprinting on he main track. I think she may be the one to beat, but can you find fault in that logic… maybe…
Lightly raced filly makes her fifth start here today and she really hasn’t run a bad race. Broke maiden at TAM on the sod, then won an Alw race at ELP. Followed that with a tiring fourth after setting the early pace in the Galway at SAR. She looks like a nice sort and could certainly improve and be a big factor here today.
Won her first four races of the season before that lack-luster race in the Caress (GIII). She won the Royal North (GII) at WO on a wet track prior to that, so I’d look for her to bounce back in a big way here today. Give her a big chance and certainly user her in the exacta and tri tickets.
She’s certainly hot right now… four in a row and undefeated for the new barn as she went through the auction ring two races back. Both of those were five furlong sprints on the grass and she’s looked good in both. This is a step up in class but her speed is certainly something to watch in this one.
Broke maiden two races back, then was last of seven in the Lake George (GIII) at SAR. It doesn’t get any easier here, so the big barn will have to find something magical with her or it could be another long day. She broke maiden at CD, so maybe some KY home cookin’ does her well.
She was making a good living on the SA down-hill course, then earned some frequent flyer miles heading up to SAR for the Caress (GIII) where she went wire-to-wire to score a nice win for this barn. She’s a hard knocking turf sprint filly and I think she will be a serious factor in this one as well.
Three wins in a row and sure did look good taking the Alywow at WO, getting home in quick time. She won two OptAlw races prior to that stakes score, and now looks to move up to the graded types again. Can she handle the raise in class? Sure does seem to be ready.
Got back on the winning way after a trio of off-the-board finishes. Won a high-end Alw race at SAR then came back to take the prep race for this one, the KD Ladies Preview at ELP. She has thirteen lifetime wins… she knows how and if she keeps the same form, I’d look for her to be a huge factor when they turn for home.
She’s won half of her four seasonal starts including the Sweet Life (GIII) at SA and the Soaring Softly (GIII) a BEL. That last out fifth at SAR was not exactly what they wanted but it was also at a mile, which may have made her an un-happy filly. Look for her to rebound and come back big today.
