Feral Impact Grabs BC Juvenile Fillies in Last Stride

BC Juvenile Fillies (KYO) (Grade 1)- $2,000.000 Purse
KEE- For FIllies Two Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
November 6, 2020

It was not the horse of his that we predicted to win, but Mb Stables once again flexed his muscle in the BC Juvenile Fillies, winning the race for the third time in his career thanks to his filly, Feral Impact. Previous winners of his were Snow Peak and Relax, two horses that went on to win horse of the year. While Feral Impact is certainly a talented horse for the future, she is not likely to win that distinction. Her win was not a surprise, as she was among our picks, as was the horse that she narrowly defeated in a photo, Hot Summer. For now, the trainer will not have to worry what happened to Not A Big Deal in this race, and we congratulate him on the win. Aboard Feral Impact was D Davis, and the jockey won the race for the first time. It was won in a time of 1:42.50. Let’s take a look!

(¼ Mile- :23.57)- From the outside, Foregone Conclusion breaks well for D J C Racing Stables, and towards the middle of the gate, her stablemate Hot Summer is also a quick starter. These two put the black and gold silks of D J C Racing Stables in the top two spots going around the first turn. We find Big Challenge, of Waldo, running in the third position, stalking top two with the post time favorite as well as our pick, Not A Big Deal, running right beside her for Mb Stables. After another length and a half, we see the pack taking shape. Rose Thorn (Mb Stables) and Round House (Pan Farms) did start a little quicker before settling into this group. Super longshot Uplifting (Fractious) is here, as well as Dirty Storm (Arindel), and the eventual winner from Mb Stables, Feral Impact. She runs in the fourth lane around the opening turn, trailing by just under five lengths, and Golden Bay (Our Athletes) is in the fifth lane. Towards the inside, Ms Joyce (RNP Stables) is part of the pack as well. Next come Secret Eyes (Gdp Inc) and Naples (Mo Mentum Farm), who will take the long way around the first turn. The trailer is Ma Party (Chili King Stables).

(½ Mile- :47.23)- Completing the run around the turn, and entering the backstretch, the top four put a little more distance between themselves and the pack. At the front, it’s still all D J C with Hot Summer and Foregone Conclusion running side by side, but in a very reasonable manner. Big Challenge and Not A Big Deal continued to stalk them, but just as they hit a half mile, Not A Big Deal started to lose a little ground to Big Challenge, something that we would not expect to see. There was a three length gap behind them to the rest of the field, who was racing in very tight quarters. Rose Thorn and Round House led the group, with Feral Impact situated right behind them. On the rail, there was a nice opening for Uplifting to come through if she wanted it, making the couple people who bet on her excited. Secret Eyes ran to the outside of Feral Impact here. Those behind them were close by but running in a tight pack, as mentioned.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- While they made their way around the turn, Hot Summer started to pull away from Foregone Conclusion and asserted herself at the front of the field. Entering the top of the stretch, she had pulled away by a length and a half and was looking very good at this juncture, making you wonder if the rest of the field let her get away. Foregone Conclusion did not back out entirely, but was not able to run with her now. Big Challenge began to lose ground, too, but the big deal was Not A Big Deal completely backing out of it at this point. Rose Thorn was looking like a good challenger as she led the second group, but Feral Impact was hanging with her and both of them seemed to have a run coming. Feral Impact still had to make up five and a half lengths at this point, so it was going to take a remarkable effort from this filly. Uplifting was holding her line on the rail, and continued to have minimal obstructions for her to make a run in the stretch. Everyone else seemed to be left behind today.

(Finish-1:42.50)- With a furlong to go, Feral Impact cut a length and a half from her deficit, but still had four lengths to make up. She would have to give it her all, but at the same time, she needed Hot Summer to start to fatigue a little bit as well. The strong run by Feral Impact continued, making up ground, and it was looking good, but you could see that Hot Summer ws getting leg weary especially as they got closer to the wire. However, she was also showing heart, to try and hang on for the win. Though they started next to one another in the gate, these horses would have much different trips in how they got to the wire, but in the end they would hit it at almost the same time, making us have to go to the photo to determine the winner. It would show that Feral Impact had prevailed in the very last stride, getting the win over a gallant Hot Summer. Uplifting, the enormous longshot, came on very well, too, and she’ll get third for that effort, completing the high paying trifecta. Foregone Conclusion held on for fourth in a gamely manner, by half a length over Big Challenge. Concluding the running order, it is Rose Thorn, Naples, Ms Joyce, Secret Eyes, Ma Party, Not A Big Deal, Dirty Storm, Round House, and Golden Bay.

About The Winner- Feral Impact, trained by Mb Stables and ridden by D Davis, is a two year old filly by Impactful, and is out of Ferrell. She is another that was bred in the great breeding state of Pennsylvania, and it was by Joshua Stables as a second quarter two year old. She was acquired by Mb Stables in May for $100.000 while she was still unraced. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her third in five starts, and her second graded win. Her career earnings are now $1,408.960.
