   10   WO            WO Oaks Stakes

$500.000                3yoF Foaled in CA          1 1/8m Dirt               123lbs

We head up to Canada for the 2020 running of the WO Oaks Stakes, going a mile and a furlong on the main track here, here in the Toronto suburbs.  We have a very talented group of horses and this looks to be a real nice race, but I landed on what I would expect to be the chalk in this one, Envy.  Last out, she was getting the job done in the Gallorette (GIII) at PIM, and this certainly seems like a spot for her to make it four in a row.  I’ll look at Broadway Stripes as my second choice, since she won the Fury Stakes over this track last out.  She really battled that day, and she will have to carry the baton a bit longer in this one, but you can’t buy heart and she seems to be all heart to me.  You can really make a case for a bunch of these, and any outcome will not surprise.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Flawed Justice    YME Stable    Lanerie C J   123   7/2

Well, she certainly seems to have this race horse thing figured out… just missed in her debut and three straight wins since including a nice three length victory at CD vs. Alw company  in her most recent.  This is her first start vs. stake horses, but she looks like she can run thru a wall.  I’d give her a big shot today, despite this star studded field.

2
Broadway Stripes    Glorify Stables    Stein J   123   3/1

Got the job done last out over this strip taking down similar in the Fury Stakes and that was certainly a game performance, setting the pace, being headed, then battling back for the win.  She was the odds on favorite, but it was more HOW she got it down than THAT she got it done.  I’d expect another big effort in this one.

3
Kumagaya    Chili King Stables    Geroux F   123   5/1

She was third in the Fury after changing hands via private sale, and that was her first shot at stakes horses.  She seems like the type that is continuing to get better with each start.  Let’s see if she can keep that going here today.

4
   Envy    Mo Mentum Farm    DeCarlo C P   123   2/1

Three in a row, four out of five ad a nice graded score at PIM in the Gallorette (GIII) last out.  She won a stakes at GG prior to that win, both against older horses, so she certainly comes into this with a full head of steam.  She looks tough.

5
   Burning Attention    Serenity Stables    Hernandez J J   123   10/1

Got back on the winning side of things taking down a high-end claimer of this surface in her most recent race.  That was her first win since breaking maiden last fall, and her only stakes effort resulted in a fifth place finish at DMR.  She will need her best to be any part of this one.

6
Sheza Showgirl    Australia Wide    Chirinos R   123   5/1

Sometimes… it just works out that way.  Just having some comments with AW about his “old days” and domination here, north of the border.  The long time conditioner just purchased this one and makes the debut for the new barn in a tough spot.  But, as mentioned, he knows how to get the job done up here.  Watch her.

7
Stuck In My Ways    Mb Stables    Fuentes Ru   123   6/1

Old days, schmold days!  This race has belonged to Mb Stables four of the last seven years and he has a pair of tough ones here today.  Only a single win this season for the chestnut filly, and she tired at LS last out, so she is going to need to improve to be part of the history.

8
   Unsuspecting    Mb Stables    Da Silva E R   123   5/1

The Mb Stables stablemate has a pair of fifth place finishes while facing graded horses this season, and tired late to be second vs. OptAlw horses over this track last out.  Now that was a turf race, as have been her last two starts, so maybe the turf-to-dirt move plays a key role?

9
   Very Brady    Maletto    Bravo J   123   5/1

Struggled against graded horses but won over this track last out taking state-bred Alw horses for a twirl and coming home in front by two lengths.  She has some tactical speed and that may come in hand from the outside post position.  She could certainly figure in the outcome of this one.

10
   Keymadge    Oquinn Farm    Kimura K   123   5/1

Back-to-back wins breaking maiden then taking state-bred Alw horses here at WO, so she looks ready to fire another big shot as she faces graded horses for the first time.  She looks like the distance fits her well, but the post… not so much.
