11 SAR The Spinaway (GI)
$250.000 2yoF 7f Dirt 119lbs
The babies aren’t so baby anymore as we are now in Sep and the 2yo fillies will be off and running on Sunday afternoon in The Spinaway (GI) a huge feather in the cap, as this race has been won by many that have gone on to greatness. I have no clue why the purse for this has been lowered, but… I digress. I’m going to look at Rum Dummy for the top spot here today. I know she was sixth last out, but you could give her a million excuses that afternoon and I think she flips the script in this one. Sheza Bombay is another that looks tough, and yes, that would be a Mb 1/2 punch from me… that shouldn’t shock you.
Here’s The Field –
She’s about as consistent a horse as you could want to have, hitting the board in every start and having two wins from those five starts. She looked good taking down Alw horses at MTH last out but this is her first jump into the deep end of the pool vs. stakes horses and it’s a tough bunch. She will find out how she fits here.
Broke maiden at second asking then tired to be third in the Sorrento Stakes (GII) at DMR in her most recent. She had the lead through a bit of that race but couldn’t hold off the winner and ended up two lengths back in third. She seems to have class and ability and should improve off of that race. I’d look for a strong performance here.
The most amazing fact to me is a pair of DH from her four races… she was fifth last out at MTH in the Colleen Stakes where she got a bit weary on the soggy turf. Can she improve on the main track here and be a threat? I guess it’s a good spot to see what she’s made of.
Won the Schuylerville (GII) over this track after breaking maiden at first asking, then closed but couldn’t get there in the Adirondack (GII) in her most recent. I look for her to stay a bit closer the pace here today, avoid those traffic issues and I think she will be a huge factor down the lane.
Her only bad race was her only stakes start. Broke maiden at first asking then scored here last out vs. Alw company where she got home safe by three-quarters of a length in pretty quick time. It’s graded foes today, so she will need her best to be a factor.
She undefeated in two starts, breaking maiden at first asking then taking the My Dear at WO, both of those wins by a length. She looks for real and has finished fast in both starts. Give her a big look here today as she could be a star in the making.
Broke maiden at third asking then ran big in the Adirondack (GII) where she was third only beaten a neck. Mb thought enough of this one to shell out $200.000 after her first run, so you know he likes her, and that’s a good thing.
Broke maiden in her first trip at SA then closed well but ended up seventh beaten a length in the Schuylerville (GIII) last out. That was a wet surface and may have been favorable for her, so look for some improvement here… it’s just a matter of how much.
Another that closed well and ended up sixth in that Schuylerville (GIII) race. She broke maiden at WO over a wet track prior to that. This barn does magical things with these youngsters so keep an eye on her.
Just missed keeping her record perfect when second in the CTBA Stakes at DMR, facing Cal-bred stakes horses. She was flying home late and just missed in a head-bobber, so now it’s up to the graded types to see what she’s made of. Hard to question Mb, so give her a chance with these.
Seems to be named well as she won at first asking then just missed after doing the heavy lifting in the Debutante at CD. Now it’s graded horses and it will be seen if she can overcome the outside post. Does the speed help her do just that? That’s why they line ’em up.
