Five LA Bred Two Year Olds Line Up in the Young Memorial Futurity-Colts

Young Memorial Futurity-Colts, Purse $100, Ungraded, 5 an ½ Furlongs, Dirt for Males 2

This is personally one of my favorite race times of the year because this is the time of the year where the 2 year old stakes races really start rolling. This is where hopes and dreams are either realized or crushed with all of the 2 year olds that have been bred. In this race we have five 2 year olds that have been bred in LA trying for their first stakes win……and in one horses case their first win ever.   Let’s take a look at the field:

1-Big Buck (Eastern Equine)- He has raced just one time and it was just under one month ago in a race going the same distance at the same track. He finished 3rd of 4 runners that day beaten by 7 lengths which is not uncommon for first time starters. Since that race he has shown some improvements in his public works however there are very few works to go off. The question is can this maiden best this field of horses that have already won, including one that has already beat him? We will find out.

2-Jolly Charley (Asgar)- Won his last start which was the 2nd race of his career. This race was the same race that Big Buck was in and is going the same distance and at the same track as today’s race. He made a nice step up after his maiden voyage and took his maiden race gate to wire, winning the Statebred MSW race against 3 other foes by an easy 2 lengths. His only public work since that win is slightly slower but in the same ball park as his work before the race. This should keep him in the mix at the end of the race.

3-Mindpath (Razorback Racing)- Has also started 2 times and won his most recent race. This race was going todays distance but was at LAD in a Statebred MSW. He beat a 4 horse field by a powerful 10 lengths but this race was on the slop. Did the slop help speed him up or is he just that dominate? This horse has very few public works so it is hard to tell how much it has speed up post races. It 6 furlong work that is public puts him right there with some of the other horses in this race so he has to be given a look. If the track comes up sloppy though, you have to watch out for this one.

4-Nevski (Barcelona Farms)- He is also 1 for 2 this year, and he won his most recent start which was a MSW at AP. He beat a nice field of 7 that lined up that day by 3 impressive lengths. Going into that race he was blazing up the track in the mornings with low 1:12 track breezes and really lived up to those works on the track. That race was recent so he has only posted one public work and it was on a good track but still posted an impressive time. For me this one has to be the one to beat in this race because he won the most difficult MSW and also has blazing works but he comes back quicker than anyone else in the field, can he overcome this?

5-Red Ace (Night Rider Stable)- He comes into the race winning his most recent of 2 starts in a very impressive 5 furlong time. This was in a Statebred MSW at LAD at the end of May. He is 1 for 2 in his career and made a nice jump up after his maiden voyage to win his last race. This horse has very few public works as well but does have a 3f public work after his last race shows that he is doing well after that race and possibly sitting on another big one. Will this horse having more rest than anyone else in the race help him get the jump on the field and win his first stakes race? I think you have to really take a nice long look at him.

As I said before this is my favorite race time of the year as stars can be born. Do we have one that may be born in this race? We will find out but I do think there is going to be a nice horse that wins this one that can go onto bigger and better things. Here is my prediction. 4-5-2-1
