Flint Off Flies by Them All in Stretch to Win Likely Exchange Stakes

Likely Exchange Stakes ($125.000 Purse)
TP- For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward
One Mile on the Dirt
January 11, 2025

Well, we got one of our three picks right to start the new year, as Flint Off earned the win in the Likely Exchange Stakes with a come from behind effort to score her fourth career win. This was not much of a surprise, however, as she went off as the post-time favorite and did not let people down. She is trained by Asgar and was ridden by G Corrales, and it is the first win for each of them in the Likely Exchange Stakes. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was 1:35.21, and that is a new record for the race. Let’s take a look at how it unfolded now:

(1/4 Mile- :23.13)- The early lead of the race will belong to Flammkuchen, the other Asgar entry, and she will lead the second place Eye Patch, out of The Sidley Stud, by a length in the early going. There is a gap of about two lengths to Hunterman Stable’s Chariots Of Angels and the D J C Racing Stables- trained Line Of Flight, who run side by side. At the rear of the field, our eventual winner from Asgar is about five lengths of her stablemate’s pace.

(½ Mile- :46.80)- Flammkuchen is still the leader as we move down the backstretch, but as we get closer to a half mile, Eye Patch is reeling her in on the inside and is just heads apart for the lead. We still have a two length or so gap to the third place Chariots Of Angels, and that one inches away from Line Of Flight a little bit. Flint Off has not gotten her cue to go yet and continues to trail.

(Top of the Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- At the top of the turn, Eye Patch would take the lead from Flammkuchen and would increase her advantage by a full length as we enter the stretch. Chariots Of Angels has gotten closer and is a good spot at this point to potentially come on between the two leaders. Line Of Flight, however, did not have the push coming. Flint Off was still fifth but coming. G Corrales would swing her to the outside on exit of the turn, and now she had the ability to sweep by the entire field while in that lane within the stretch. She needed to make up about two lengths on Eye Patch.

(Finish- 1:35.21)- Into the stretch, Eye Patch tries to hang on, but Chariots Of Angels was full of run and taking advantage of the opportunity to split the leaders. She would have seemed to be in a good position to win the race if it were not for Flint Off on the outside. But this race was indeed going to belong to Flint Off, as she gained ground quickly in the stretch and powered to the lead with a half furlong to go. Chariots Of Angels tried to give her a battle, but she would company as Flint Off was not going to be denied tonight! The win was nearly a full length for Flint Off, and Chariots Of Angels was a clear second. They ended up putting about a two-length cushion on the third place Eye Patch, who tops Flammkuchen and Line Of Flight.

About The Winner- Flint Off, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by G Corrales, is a four-year-old filly by Sweat It Off and is out of The Rube. She was bred as a first quarter two-year-old in California by Asgar, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 16 starts and first stake win. Her career earnings are now $386.880.
