San Vicente Stakes – Grade II
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Open 3 Year Olds.
Well i wont say i didnt tell you so as one length covered the first five home once
again here at HRP. The result is what counts today, although it would probably be different
tomorrow, the question now is which one of these will be taking the TC road.
1st Fly Millennium, trained by Blushing meadows
A worthy winner he had striggled in this grade before but today his numbe came up
and he won very gamely in a driving finish. Given a great ride he ran quicker than
he ever had before today and that normaly spells improving which is a good thing to
be at this time of year. I dont think he is a serious TC contender but may turn out
to be a force in the later season sprints.
2nd Chester Cheetah, trained by Aer Stables
A great auction buy this performance was pretty much all on the back of one work. The
strength of that mile work in Febraury coupled with this fighting second place may see
him have a go at TC qualification and he would seem to have as good a chance as any at
getting in.
3rd Grandeur, trained by Mb Stables
Closed hard for third but continues to dissapoint a little after his grade one win last
season. He may be another who heads for the last chance saloon as he looks like a mile
plus will suit.
4th Carry The Lines, trained by Chili King Stables
Ran a loose stalk and kept on gamely for fourth only beaten a length. There doesnt look
like theres too much more to come from him but this was an honest run.
5th Diamond Line
His run of five from five finally came to an end with a snatchy run. Only beaten a length
he may be worth a go at a longer trip and could still end up as a TC contender.
6th Yankee Baseball
Led until a furlong out but could not beat the wide gate speed push that put him there. A
good effort from the draw and there is still a good race in him.
7th Marvin
ran well enough but never really got in a blow.
8th Nebraska III
Got into second in the first quarter but faded steadily after that, the jury is out on this
promising colt.
9th Viking Tiz
The odds generator once again proved to be a bit Mickey Mouse as this one started the hot
favourite but was never better than last. I thought he would run better than this but
i feel it was the last or first option from the wide gate that saw this poor run.
SUMMARY
A good and gutsy win by the winner but change some draws around and a few trips and teh result
would easily be different.
