Folsom Tradition Dominates LCD Ladies

LCD Ladies ($100.000 Purse)
FG- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Foaled in LA
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
December 12, 2020

All of the racing at FG on Saturday would have to deal with the rain, and in the LCD Ladies, this would lead to one scratch as Blue Party Rain, despite seemingly being named for this weather, would opt out. That left a field of four to party on the soft turf, and the post time favorite would take care of business. Folsom Tradition, who was also our pick to win, is a horse that trainer John Henry has high hopes for considering the $225.000 purchase price to acquire her. Perhaps this win can be the start of her getting consistent positive results for the trainer. It is the first win in this stake for John Henry and jockey A Beschizza. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:45.18. Here is how they fared:

1st- 1- Folsom Tradition (John Henry) (4/5)- Our eventual winner would let others in the field have their fun at the front early on, and would settle into a spot at the back of the pack. She would have some company back there with Full Of Heart. Once Burgoo made the pass for the lead at the top of the final turn, Folsom Tradition would turn up the heat, quickly cutting into her deficit. Every stride in the turn saw him gain ground, and by the top of the stretch, she was only half a length from the lead. At this point, the race pretty much looked over. That it was, as she completely took it over in the stretch, and wins the race easily but nearly a full second as no one would challenge her.

2nd- 5- Burgoo (Iwin Enterprise) (6/1)- Started well, but not quite as quickly as Sin City Hip Check. She would hold the second position in the opening moments, trailing by a length and a half, but having a three and a half length on third place. Applied pressure on Sin City Hip Check about midway into the backstretch, and would make the pass for the lead at the top of the turn. Had no answer for Folsom Tradition, but hangs on for second by default, really, because Full Of Heart lacked response as well.

3rd- 3- Full Of Heart (Arindel) (8/5)- Did not concern herself with the two early leaders, and would take a spot in the back of the field with Folsom Tradition. These two would enter the backstretch trailing by about five lengths. Was not as quick to respond as Folsom Tradition, and by the top of the stretch, she really had not made up a lot of ground on Burgoo. Lacked response in the stretch, and only got closer to Burgoo because that was one was gassed and not because of a push of her own.

4th- 4- Sin City Hip Check (Onlineracingclub.com) (9/1)- Quick out of the gate, and would open up a lead of a length and a half pretty quickly over the second place Burgoo, with an even larger gap behind her. Would be passed for the lead midway through the backstretch, and at the point, it seemed like she packed it in. Did not show any fight thereafter.

About The Winner- Folsom Tradition, trained by John Henry and ridden to victory by A Beschizza, is a four year old filly by Cherokee Sunset and is out of the late Beyond The Stars. She was bred in Louisiana by Team 7 Illusions as a second quarter two year old, and acquired by John Henry in the June 2020 auction for $225.000. The win is her fifth in 14 starts, and her second stake win. Her career earnings are now $258.030.
