Well, I just didn’t see that one coming… John Henry’s Fomalhaut hadn’t won since last Feb, although she’d been close in a number of graded races. But maybe she likes these early months as the 7yo mare proved she’s not ready for the breeding shed just yet, taking Monday’s Megahertz (GIII) by a neck in a final time of 1:331 for the flat mile turf stakes. The gray mare raced just in behind the pace, then kicked clear late with a relentless push, scoring her tenth lifetime win. Post time favorite and my choice, Rules Are Madness, did all of the heavy lifting, setting the pace throughout and just getting nailed in the late stages of this one. It was another length back to Call Sarah in third with Apache Snow taking the fourth spot. The race was dominated by the front runners as the closers just never seemed to get going.
Fomalhaut is a 7yo gray mare by Shinning Armor – Diazo Gem, by Rockefella, and she was bred in CA by Barcelona Farms. Acquired via Private Sale for $100.000 back in Jan of 2017, this was her tenth win from forty starts, and she has seventeen other on-the-board finishes, adding up to lifetime earnings of $1,254.660.
