2 LA Starlet (GI)
$300.000 2yoF 1 1/16m Dirt 2yo 120lbs
Looks like money well spent… Fractious plunked down $300.000 for Secret Eyes and boy-oh-boy is that already paying dividends. The 2yo filly flew home like a monster, taking Saturday’s Starlet (GI) at LA by a length in a final time of 1:421 for the mile and a sixteenth. The post-time favorite got the job done over the LA strip labeled fast. Feral Impact came from well off of the pace but had to settle for the second spot, three quarters of a length in front of American Phoerest in third.
A full field of twelve loaded into the starting gate and were away in good order with Uplifting away well, Sass on her outside, Average Luck, then drop down to the rail for American Phoerest and Secret Eyes. Shes A Super Freak was next, Glamorous Life, Feral Impact, Forgone Conclusion between horses, and the outside trio of Storm The Court, Pure Lizzie and Naples were the early trailers.
Around the clubhouse turn and onto the backside, they had six furlongs to run with Sass and Uplifting eye to eye and setting the fractions, a length and a half to Average Luck, thin the trio of Secret Eyes on the rail, American Phoerest next to that one and Storm The Court on the outside of that group. Another length and a half to a wall that included Foregone Conclusion, Glamorous Life on the outside, Feral Impact and Shes A Super Freak back towards the inside, Naples just in behind that group and Pure Lizzie was the back marker.
Making their way down the long back-stretch and to the far turn, they moved past the seven-sixteenths pole and Sass was now in front by a length. Storm The Court losing some ground, Uplifting with inside position, Average Luck caught widest of all, American Phoerest on her inside, Secret Eyes to the inside of that one, then a gap back to Feral Impact and Foregone Conclusion, a length to Shes A Super Freak saving ground, Naples between horses, Glamorous Life on her outside then a gap back to Pure Lizzie.
Swing around the far turn and into the lane, the field had three-sixteenths of a mile to run and we had a horse race on our hands. American Phoerest with a nose in front of Sass, Secret Eyes now up and into contention with Average Luck widest of all. Just in behind that foursome was Storm The Court, Uplifting on the inside of that one, Feral Impact towards the outside and Foregone Conclusion widest of that group, back to the rail for Shes A Super Freak, Naples on her flank, out wide to Glamorous Life and Pure Lizzie was outrun.
Continued down the lane and now in deep stretch, It was a two horse battle as American Phoerest and Secret Eyes were getting the best of them, but in deep stretch, Secret Eyes was able to dispose of American Phoerest as that one didn’t want to go on, and Secret Eyes pulled away late to win by a length. Feral Impact closed a late gap to grab the place as American Phoerest hung on for third. Foregone Conclusion grabbed the minor share in fourth, then Shes A Super Freak in fifth, Sass sixth, Glamorous Life seventh, Storm The Court eighth, Uplifting ninth, Naples tenth, Average Luck eleventh and Pure Lizzie closed this one out.
Secret Eyes is a 2yo bay filly by Entice – Spanish Eyes, by Condottieri, and she was bred by Gdp Inc in NY. As mentioned she was acquired by Fractious via Private Purchase prior to this start for $300.000. She now shows four wins from seven starts and earnings of $487.460. This was a very impressive win and I’m sure we all want to see what lies ahead for this one.
