We continue our look at these fantastic LA-bred races by moving to the LCD Lassie, which is the race for Juvenile Fillies bred in the state. Like it’s counterpart for males, it first appeared on the schedule in 2006, but has not run every year. Last year, only three horses ended up going to post, and the winner that day would be Rematch, running for T Boy Racing, getting his first win in the stake. The filly continued to run well in LA-bred races, but would be claimed in July, and while she is still active, we have not seen her on the track since then. This year, we will have five scheduled to go to post, and they will all hope (unless one is a serious mudder) for the rain to hold up and a dry race track. Let’s meet our participants!

#1- Bronze Freak (Asgar, ridden by A Beschizza)- When we looked at the LCD Juvenile, we saw that Asgar opted to run a filly in that race. Why wouldn’t she have been entered here? Well, because of Bronze Freak is here and the trainer may very well have a great opportunity to capture both of these races. Bronze Freak is doing everything right thus far, winning three out of five races, including two LA-bred stakes, the Young Memorial Futurity- Fillies, and the LA Jewel. Everything’s great about her works, and a win here may just elevate her into the graded ranks. Looks especially formidable here if it does end up raining.

#2- Libby Creek (Nynl Stables, ridden by G Saez)- This will be the first time in stable history that I’ll have four runners in four stakes at the same track on the same day. Sure, Mb laughs at that, but of my runners, Libby Creek right here has me the most excited. She has always hit the board in her six starts, and comes in here on a three-race winning streak therefore earning the chance to be promoted to stakes competition. Her work last week has me excited about how she might go and she seems like she will give Bronze Freak a strong challenge here.

#3- True Crimes (Hannahbanana, ridden by F Arrieta)- It’s great to see this trainer taking a step up into stake competition. Perhaps this horse will get them their long awaited first stake victory, but it’s hard to get too excited about them right here. They were a good claim for $36.000, but the filly will have had just two weeks of rest and is still a maiden. That can be overcome, though, but she’s mostly been a turf router, so this is a change for her. Perhaps she will love this, but the last public work on the dirt came in May, so as an outsider, I couldn’t put money on this horse.

#4- Make An Impact (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by F Geroux)- Like True Crimes, Make An Impact is also a maiden and has not been in a race since her debut in mid-May. After running fourth that day, the trainer has been exceptionally patient, and is ready to unleash her here against other LA-breds. On November 29th at the LA in California, she put forth an eye opening work, and that makes her an immediate threat to make an impact. Other trainers in this race will hope she’ll need a race to do that, first.

#5- For The Lonely (T Boy Racing, ridden by R Santana Jr)- The trainer will be hoping for his second straight win, but this race figures to be more of a challenge than the 2020 race was. For The Lonely has been seen often in LA-bred races, and has run twice against Bronze Freak. She was closer to her in the Young Memorial Futurity- Fillies, finishing second by a length, but struggled in the LA Jewel. For the trainer’s sake, hopefully that was just a one-race blip that she can overcome. Expect her to be a threat here but must be the filly we saw in September.
