Freaky Domination in The Pasco Stakes

The Pasco Stakes ($150.000 Purse)
TAM- For Three Year Olds
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
January 11, 2025

With the scratch of Domestic Product, we would be left with just five horses going in The Pasco Stakes at TAM on Saturday. However, the winner, Le Freak, may have felt that he was the only horse taking part, as he jumped out to the early lead and was never bothered, cruising to a three-length victory. Not too bad for a horse that had run for a $25.000 claiming tag a month prior down at GP. He may be an example of a geld paying off, and we will see where this takes him into his three-year-old season. Le Freak is trained by Riggins Racing with Sa Camacho in the saddle. For each, it is their first win in the Pasco. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:21.40, the second quickest in the history of the race. Let’s take a look at how it unfolded!

(1/4 Mile- :23.02)- Le Freak, the eventual race winner, goes right out to the lead from the gate for Riggins Racing, and has already pulled in front by a length and a half over his closest competitor. That would be Oddly Enough, for D J C Racing, and that one is a length in front of Blazin D’s General Style. Michael Jordan, the equine version from Nakamura Stables, is next in line, and our pick to win, Sectumsempra, is at the back for Delta Farms.

(½ Mile- :46.26)- Le Freak is not messing around here, as he pulls away during the backstretch portion even more, opening up by about three lengths. The rest of the field is in the same alignment as they were previously, with Oddly Enough being second over Generals Style, then Michael Jordan and Sectumsempra, all in a line at this point.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- This is now beginning to look like a rout, as Le Freak opens up by about four, leading comfortably entering the stretch. Generals Style pulled alongside of Oddly Enough for second, and right behind them Michael Jordan and Sectumsempra were also running evenly. But unless there was massive collapse on the part of Le Freak, all that is for second.

(Finish- 1:21.40)- For Le Freak, this probably just seemed like a workout. No one got near him, and he was able to maintain his stride comfortably all the way to the wire. Looks like he won’t be in another claimer anytime soon after this dominating victory! Things were closer to complete the exacta, as Sectumsempra prevails in a photo with Generals Style for that spot. Michael Jordan and Oddly Enough round it out.

About The Winner- Le Freak, trained by Riggins Racing and ridden to victory by Sa Camacho, is a three-year-old gelding by The Closer, and is out of Tactical Speed. He was bred in California by Riggins Racing as a quarter two-year-old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in six starts and first stake win. His career earnings are now $128.280.
