Friday Stakes Action
1 CD The Sidney (GIII)
Purse $400.000 3yo&Up F&M 5 1/2f Turf 3yo 118lbs Older 124lbs
We kick off the big weekend with Female Friday and what a group of races… to start the day, we get a nice field of eight ladies of the lawn, sprinting five and a half furlongs in The Sidney (GIII). We’re counting on The Green Card to pick some winners today, and it says head out to the outside… Stellar Strength and A Lot To Say come from the big barn, and Mb wants to start the weekend off the right way… Stellar Strength was second to Antares in the Monrovia (GIII) at SA last out, but the numbers say the tables get turned here today. Antares won that race at SA by a length, taking down the odds-on favorite, and I think you have to give her a big look, despite the numbers.

2 CD The Modesty (GIII)
Purse $400.000 4yo&Up F&M 1 1/8m Turf 122lbs
To the turf course and a surprisingly small field for The Modesty (GIII), a mile and an eighth sod test for the older ladies and we only drew a six-pack for this one, but it does have some big horses in it. Let’s start with Stinky Rene, who might be Rene, but she’s anything but stinky! How about five wins from her last six starts, the other being a hard closing fifth in the BC F&M Turf (GI)… yeah she’s got talent and loves it wet. Same can be said for Demanding Commander who likewise has won four of her last five starts and was eleventh in that BC race, just never finding her best that day. Still, she’s two-for-two in ’24, and looks for mo’money!

3 CD Eight Belles (GII)
Purse $600.000 3yoF 7f Dirt 122lbs
A name that still brings a tear to my eye every single time I hear it… a nice field of sophomore fillies will run in the Eight Belles (GII), named in honor, and the gate should be full for this one. This is a bit of a wide-open affair, and I don’t see a clear favorite, but The Card says Dream Chaser will bounce back from that last-out sixth place finish to win here, with some odds. Only four starts for her, and the KEE track can be a puzzle for some horses, and that’s what it’s telling us. We jump down to the inside for the other selections as Sorenstam, another lightly raced filly, gets a big number and the second choice. She’s won three in a row, so, yeah, I can certainly see the love for this one. Right next door, Remember This Day is the third selection. She only shows a maiden win, but has been close in a number of big races, and she was 42/1 when third in the Beaumont (GII) at KEE… I doubt you see that here.

4 CD The Edgewood (GII)
Purse $600.000 3yoF 1 1/16m Turf 122lbs
Ladies Night continues here at CD with a mile and a sixteenth sod test for the sophomore ladies, and The Edgewood (GII) shapes up to be a very nice race. The Green Card sees a repeat of The Appalachian (GII) from KEE and takes Bella Latte as the top pick. Only five races in her career, but she’s been a handful in every start, and look for more of the same here. Let’s go to the outside post and look at End Of The Devil, second in the fore-mentioned App, she closed like a freight train, and the added sixteenth makes me wonder if she isn’t the one to watch… she seems to be beggin’ for more ground. Wonderful World was fourth in that race, but the Card sees her doing a bit better today and marked that good run as a bounce… she was the favorite on that evening in Lexington, so let’s see if the system calls one here.
