$200.000 3yo&Up 5 1/2f Turf 3yo 121 lbs Older 124 lbs
Turf speedsters will be on the menu at KEE this Saturday and we look at the field for the Woodford (GII) going five and a half furlongs on the lush lawn here in Lexington. The gate should be full for this one and there’s certainly no lack of speed or talent… I’m going with the big stable and Elijah G here in this one. He’s been tough in just about every race this season and even that sixth, he was only a length back. They come to win money, so… let’s go right next door and put Kid Commander in the picture. He just missed last out on the hill at KD and certainly love the grass. His only bad race was on the dirt so ignore that and put in on your tickets. I’ll go towards the outside and give another Mb horse a chance, as Shakespearean looks like a horse that could still be finding himself but never runs a bad race. If he can keep his current form, he may be a serious threat.
It’s a nice and loaded field, so let’s get a big glass of Blanton’s and head down to the rail for what should be a heck of a race.
Here’s The Field –
Two wins this season including a nice score in the KD Ladies Sprint (GIII) in her most recent. Takes on the boys today, and you know I’m not fan of that, but she’s certainly fast and makes for an interesting angle in this one. If girls vs boys is your cup of tea, she certainly looks the part.
Another with a pair of wins and this 3yo is lightly raced, this being his tenth start. Won the Mahony at SAR going the same distance on The Spa grass, but came back to be tenth in the Simpson (GII) at KD. Now that can be a tricky configuration, so maybe we give him a pass. Still, he will need his best to be in the mix.
Had his three-race win streak snapped when fourth in the KD Turf Sprint (GIII) but he was closing fast in that one, so even that race gives a positive vibe. He won the Troy (GIII) prior to that, so he can run with this type… you may want to give him a big big look.
He’s been claimed twice in his last five races, but the new connections have been stepping him up and it’s paying off in a big way. Won a PA-bred Alw race then took PA-bred stakes company in his most recent, so he’s two-for-two under the new ownership. Does he keep that streak going?
Three wins last season but this 6yo was having a tough time in ’21 before winning at PEN last out. He was sixth in the MM Mile (GI) over this strip in the spring, so… let’s just say he’s going to have to find some of that old magic.
Seven wins from eighteen starts, so there’s no doubt this one knows how to find the wire. He has back-to-back stakes wins on the MTH grass and now moves up to the graded types, so it will be interesting to see how he responds. He certainly has speed and loves the lawn.
He’s having a great season hitting the board in five of six and his only off-the-board effort was on the dirt. No more of that, it’s green and clean for this speedster. Just missed in the KD Turf Sprint (GIII) finishing a nose back of the winner, so you have to think he will be a huge factor today.
Another that is having a great season, on-the-board in seven of eight starts and was third in the KD Turf Sprint as the 5/2 favorite. He won the Quick Call (GIII) at SAR three back and another like that would certainly make him tough to get past.
His only seasonal win came on the main track at GP back in March where he took OptAlw horses to task. He was third in the Troy (GIII) on the SAR grass, so he has ability on the green stuff. Still, he will need his best effort to be part of this one.
Five wins from eleven starts, so this is another that knows how to bring checks home to papa. Took the Green Flash at DMR after winning for a tag, so the barn is probably glad nobody put the halter on this one. Tiring fourth vs. ONT-bred speedsters at WO last out, so he’s going to have to get back on track to get the job done here.
Only six starts for this 3yo and he’s never been off of the board. Won a high end Alw race at SAR prior to that second in the Simpson (GII) at KD last out. He was closing in the late going of that race, so I think he’s a horse that could still be on the improve, and he may come with some odds in this one.
Still looking for his first win of the ’21 season, but he has a pair of second including the Connaught Cup Stakes (GII) at WO on the turf up there. Was an even fourth in the Troy (GIII) and he’s facing some of those that beat him last out, so he either turns the tables or it could be a long day.
Although he’s been running against claiming and Alw types, he never runs a bad race and it might be fun to see what this one could churn up… that is, if he draws in.
