9 GP The Holy Bull Stakes (GIII) [KYD]
$250.000 11/16 Mile Dirt 3yo 121lbs
A bit race on the road to Louisville and we look at a full gate of twelve to go a mile and a sixteenth in The Holy Bull Stakes (GIII), always a huge stepping stone and the group of monsters that are prior winners seems endless. So where do we go today? I’m headed to the far outside and will give Clever the nod for this big race. He looked good winning that stakes at TAM to close out his 2yo campaign and was closing late in the Smarty Jones at OP, last out. This barn like to bring them back quick, so he’s right back in and the outside post could actually help his late running style. Let’s go to the other end of the gate and put Tropical Surge in the second spot. That was an impressive wire-to-wire win here in the Mucho Macho Man, and another like that and he could once again run off and hide. Looking at another closer in the third spot, Propector Gambler made a huge late run in the Smarty Jones, ending up a half-length back in that one. He looks like a horse that will only get better as the distances increase. I’m not real hot on my selections, and this is certainly anyone’s race to win.
