5 KEE Jessamine (GII) [BC]
$350.000 2yoF 1 1/16m 122 lbs
There’s Fall at KEE and there’s spring at KEE… I don’t care… it’s KEE, my favorite place on this flying ball of carbon. We get a full field of twelve set to go a mile and a sixteenth in the Jessamine (GII) and I’d guess the winner will be right back here for the BC, soon enough. Let’s go with Forever Sweet in this one, as I think she is an absolute monster. She’s run very well in all race, including that near miss in the KD Juv on the wet grass, that afternoon. Mb is loaded today, but I like this one, so there you have it. I’ll put Fay in the second spot, and this filly just missed at DMR running second in the OT Juv Filly, and I think the added sixteenth will play to her favor. You know I’m not much in these baby races, but I’m tough at KEE, so how does this go?
Here’s The Field –
Broke maiden at first asking and has been close in all of her other races, although she hasn’t had her picture take again. A couple of fourths before a nice runner-up race in the OT Juv Filly Turf at DMR in her most recent. She runs big and caught the rail, so look for her to be in the middle of this one.
Broke maiden at MTH in her first start on the green stuff, so maybe she’s found the spot that makes more green. She got home by two lengths in that one, so giver her a puncher’s chance despite not seeing black type horses.
Won at first asking and has been close in both starts since, running third vs. a big Alw group at SAR then tiring late in the Natalma (GI) at WO, where she was fourth only beaten a half length. She could be the one to beat today.
Broke maiden in her third start at MTH then was fourth in the Untapable at KD in her most recent trip to the gate. I’m not sure that a wet surface is her best footing, and if she gets a firm track for this, she could spell upset. I think she has some real ability.
Bang! Bang! Broke maiden at GP on a wet track then came back to win the KD Juv Turf on a very wet track, so no the question is… is she a wet track specialist or can she just run thru a brick wall? …and, will this be a wet track. Any way you look at it, she’s tough.
Broke maiden at DMR, then ran like … well, last at KD in the Untapable where she just never seemed to get going. Was the wet surface to blame, or was the Fla-bred MSW race just easy enough to get by? We find out today.
When I say she broke maiden last out… well, she ran off to win by eight lengths in a 5f MSW at PRX. That’s impressive, to say the least, but was it the change in medication, the wet surface or is she just ready to set the world on fire? I can’t wait to see how this goes.
Early Scratch
She’s never been worst than fourth in five starts and got the job done last out at SAR, taking down MSW company by two lengths. She’s run well on wet, dry, parking lot… doesn’t matter. I think she has a very big career ahead of her.
Mb comes with the guns loaded today, and this is another big one. She broke maiden at first asking, then won an Alw race at PID before that runner up effort in the KD Juv Filly at KD, where she missed by a nose. Just another monster from the Mb Stables lot and I’d look for her to be a force today.
Three wins in a row to kick off her career, but those were all TX-bred races. She was third in the Sorrento (GII) and closed a late gap in the DMR Debutante (GI), so maybe she makes some noise in this one, if she’s on her best.
Broke maiden at first asking then got the job done in her first turf try, taking down OptAlw types at DMR, going wire-to-wire in that one. She could be any type, and this is a sharp outfit with a sharp horse, so I’d give her a serious look.
