Furious Logic and Extreme Flyer Share The Thunder Rumble Win

NY Stallion Series- Thunder Rumble ($125.000 Purse)
AQU- For Three Year Olds and Upward Foaled in NY
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
November 23, 2024

In my second dead heat to cover today, it’s time to take a look at the NY Stallion Series- Thunder Rumble. In this one, a sole winner could not be determined either, as Extreme Flyer and Furious Logic will share the top prize. On the Extreme Flyer side of things, the gelding is trained by La Canada Racehorses and had D Davis aboard, and for Furious Logic, Asgar is the trainer, and the rider was J Alvarado. For all of the aforementioned names, it is their first win in the Thunder Rumble. Congratulations to them! It’s the second time this race has finished in a dead heat, with the previous time being in 2012. I said the exact same thing about the Commonwealth Turf, interestingly enough. The winning time was 1:21.23, which is a new stake record. Let’s take a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :22.53)- Furious Logic is the quickest of them all out of the gate, and the Asgar entry will have a length lead over his fellow co-winner, Extreme Flyer, from La Canada Racehorses. So, will this mean this is pretty much a two-horse race, and we can forget everyone else? Well, for now, Skylight Sword runs in the third position for Onlineracingclub.com, with Riggins Racing’s Destined To Be right beside him. It’s another length to Honk Honk (D J C Racing Stables), who is a length ahead of a three wide group that consists of Fire And Ice (TwinTowersRacing), Sick Boi (Royalty Stables), and Tetris (Ajm Stables). Then will come Tough Customer (Big Jd Racing) and Whiskey Drink (First Flight Stable), with Sir Lord Devastator (Onlineracingclub.com) at the back of the pack.

(½ Mile- :45.71, Top of Stertch, 1.8F To Go)- Towards the end of the backstretch, Extreme Flyer pulls in right behind Furious Logic, and they are content to run in that formation while rounding the turn, with third place Destined To Be also following that plan. Getting closer to the stretch, Furious Logic would leave a lot of room on the rail, and Extreme Fyler would take advantage of that, positioning himself to make a run to the inside. Destined To Be is still in striking race in third, two lengths from the lead. As for the rest of the pack, there really is not much action. Skylight Sword was dropping back quickly but behind him, the rest of the field seem too far back to make an impact on the leaders. If they wanted to do so, they needed to get moving immediately.

(Finish- 1:21.23)- The disappointment of this race finishing in a dead heat should not take anything away from the two horses that share in the victory. They were each quick out of the gate, and clearly were the class of the field for the entire seven furlongs. Furious Logic ran gamely to the wire, but could not quite hold off Extreme Flyer, who battled all the way to the end. Once they hit the wire, there was nothing to separate them, so it will indeed be a dead heat. Destined To Be will take third, never threatening for more but never being worried of getting less at the same time. Tetris was the best of those further back to get up for fourth but really needed to begin his run earlier. Fire And Ice and Sick Boi are next, followed by Sir Lord Devastator, Tough Customer, Whiskey Drink, Honk Honk and Skylight Sword.
