Gigafemme has made it a habit to run against NY-Breds but was still looking for her first win against them in a stake. She had run well in her two prior races and was expected to do the same here as well. It turns out that she would wait until the purse reached this high point to grab the win, an impressive win of nearly two lengths. The filly is trained by Big Guns Stables and was ridden by P Husbands. For each, it is their first win in the Fifth Avenue. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:21.98, which is exactly the same as it was last year! Let’s take a look at it now:

(1/4 Mile- :22.65)- Sugar Queen bursts out of the starting gate for Mb Stables, and will have the field cleared by about a length and a half early in the backstretch. Heart Of Joy will run second for Royalty Stables while having Affair, from D J C Racing Stables to her inside. Night Rider Stables- trained Peppered Fine is next, and behind her on the outside is her stablemate, Merlene Ottey. Dianas Fury is nearby on the rail for D J C Racing Stables. Next up, we have Blazin D’s Panamoulu with the eventual winner from Big Guns Stables, Gigafemme, next on the outside, officially scored as being four lengths out. At the back, we have Salty Heifer (Mb Stables), Neon Sara (TwinTowersRacing), and Chemistry Crackle (Mb Stables).

(½ Mile- :46.06, Top of Stretch, 1.8F To Go)- Sugar Queen continues to lead the way down the backstretch and around the turn while having Heart Of Joy and Affair continue to stalk the pace. However, the one to watch at this point of the race was the longshot Merlene Ottey, as she pushed forward midway into the backstretch and continued to advance within the turn. Entering the stretch, she was now in the second spot and had her supporters thinking about where they were going to go for dinner. Further back, Gigafemme started to show more interest with an outside run. She has not made any significant progress just yet, but she was able to get herself clear of the rest of the pack to set her sights on the frontrunners. Dianas Fury was lacking response, as was Panamoulu, and Peppered Fine called it a day. Neon Sara, Chemistry Crackle, and Salty Heifer all ran at the back together.

(Finish- 1:21.98)- In the stretch, Gigafemme would run four wide and was advancing on those in front of her a little quicker. With a furlong to go, she was within a length of the still leading Sugar Queen, and it seemed like it was imminent that she would get by all of them for the win. Sure enough, that is what would happen as the others could not match the power in her stride. Gigafemme would win while pulling away, essentially winning the race by two lengths. Merlene Ottey will provide a high-priced exacta in running second, while Sugar Queen prevails in a photo for show over Heart Of Joy. Rounding it out are Affair, Salty Heifer, Neon Sara, Diana Fury, Chemistry Crackle, Panamoulu, and Peppered Fine.

About The Winner- Gigafemme, trained by Big Guns Stables and ridden to victory by P Husbands, is a two-year-old filly by Hashrate and is out of Valentina. She was bred in New York as a yearling by Big Guns Stables, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in six starts and first stake win. Her career earnings are now $392.600.
