Glen Cove Field Is More Than Just Average

Glen Cove (Grade 3)- $175.000 Purse
AQU- For Fillies Three Years Old
Six Furlongs on the Turf
October 11, 2025

Eleven were entered into the Glen Cove, but after a couple of early scratches, we now will have just nine heading to the starting gate for the race. This is the fifth time that the race has been run, and it will be the first time that race carries a graded designation. The purse sees a $25.000 increase from last year, a race that was won by Sinisoul, for Alydar Stables. It would be her last career win, and she has since been retired. Now, let’s meet those that are still scheduled to run in this turf sprint for three-year-old fillies:

1- Theatrical (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by K Davis)- Making her second start for Maxmillion Farm after the trainer picked her up in private sales for $75.000. She had been inconsistent in overnights for prior trainer Pan Farms but did win on debut for her new trainer. Interestingly, that came after a six month layoff. This will be her first attempt at a stake.

2- Matey (Red Fox Farms, ridden by J J Castellano)- A win or nothing horse over her 13 career starts. She has six wins over that time, but the other seven starts have seen her out of a check cashing position entirely. Won the Grade 3 Coronation Cup two back, but you have to wonder if she can be trusted, given her history.

3- Mollys Sweet Nectar (Xcel Racing, ridden by J Rosario)- In six starts, Mollys Sweet Nectar has picked up five victories, with her biggest such win being her last race, the $150.000 Galway from SAR in August. Her other wins are all in overnights, including the $20.000 claimer where Xcel Racing was able to add her in June.

4- Join Together (Luz International, ridden by J Alvarado)- Luz International may have seen Molly Sweet Nectar get claimed away from him, but that doesn’t stop him from having a red-hot horse in this race. Join Together rides a three-race win streak into the Glen Cove, and that includes the $150.000 NY Stallion Series-Liberty last time out. That was her first time running long, and something that the trainer can file away for future reference as its back to a sprint here.

5- My Beautiful Ballon (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by J Lezcano)- Showed plenty of promise as a two-year-old, winning the Grade 3 Matron here last year, but has not been seen much this year. My Beautiful Ballon has only made three starts, though has won two of them. Neither of them is stake wins like the Matron, but we know she is capable of winning a race like this.

6- Smokin Cherie (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by D Davis)- This is not her stake debut, as she did attempt one in January, but she should be a lot more prepared for it this time around. After all, she is another horse in this field who is red hot and has won her last three races. They were not all for the largest purses, but she did win a four-horse open allowance at MTH last time out. Now, comes a much larger test.

7- Wobble Stopper (First Flight Stable, ridden by E A Ellingwood)- It took her a little while to break her maiden, needing six starts to do so, but once she visited the winners circle for the first time, she knows of no other ending. She’s now won three in a row, something that a couple of her other rivals in here can also say and gets her first crack at a stake right here.

8- Tried N True (Spb Racing, ridden by L Dettori)- She’s the veteran of the group, making her 16th career start. To this point, she’s won five times and hit the board in seven other races. Additionally, three of her last four races have been wins. She’s made several stakes starts and has been third in each of them. Perhaps she can do two better here.

9- Rogers Schnapps- Scratched

10- Creepy Ruler- Scratched

11- Just Average (Mb Stables, ridden by F Prat)- Doesn’t have the winning streak that several of these have, but what she does bring into the race is a multitude of graded stakes experience. She’s won two such races this year, including a massive score in the Grade 2 Music City Stakes, a $2,000.000 race at KD last time out. Likes it wet and probably wouldn’t have complained if this was a Sunday race and not a Saturday race with the expected rain here then, but she can be more than average when it is dry as well.

Prediction: 11-4-8-3
