Glorious Song Stakes- $100.000 Purse
WO- For Fillies Two Years Old
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
November 11, 2018
For the third time in four years, D J C Racing Stables is singing a beautiful tune as he picks up another victory. This would come in the eleventh running of the Glorious Song Stakes, and now the trainer will be hoping that Golden Hour can follow the lead that his winner in this race last year, Diplomatic Chaos, would, and perhaps even better that. The Hannibal Lecter filly seemed as though she would be one of the favorites for the race, and was made to be our second choice. With this win, she has now won two straight, and will probably set her sights a little higher. While the trainer has been dominant in this race, jockey E J Wilson gets his first win. D J C Racing Stables has spread his winners around in this race, with three different jockeys for them. Congratulations to the winners! The time of victory was 1:22.81, and while it might not be one of the quicker winning times, it was all that was necessary. Here’s a look at it!
(1/4 Mile- :23.57)- The field enjoys a rather steady pace with no one really looking to make their mark in the early going. Old Nebraska Copy is scored as the leader at this point for John Henry, after a mild battle with Speedy Ginger, from The Sidley Stud. Golden Hour, our eventual winner from D J C Racing Stables was a length and a half back initially, but looks to split the top two midway through the backstretch. Paris Theatre, out of Glorify Stables is fourth in a stalking position just two lengths back. Command Of Numbers (Estero Farms) and Di Zippy (RNP Stables) trail, but are within four lengths.
(½ Mile- :46.81)- The pace picks up just a bit as Old Nebraska Copy tries to put some distance on the field towards the end of the backstretch. She would not succeed in this, however, because Golden Hour continued to keep pace with her, running just to her outside. Speedy Ginger, however, would not maintain the same speed, and lost a pivotal lengths to Golden Hour during this portion. Bear in mind, they are in a photo finish at the end, so the decision here of Speedy Ginger to not keep up with Golden Hour may have cost her the race. Command Of Numbers starts to lurk a little closer with a good position on the rail, though Paris Theatre begins to fade. Di Zippy is now all by herself in the back.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Old Nebraska Copy hangs tough while rounding the turn, but Golden Hour had methodically been reeling her in. At the top of the stretch, they are side by side. Speedy Ginger gets herself back in the picture now, trying to come back on Golden Hour while running three wide. Command Of Numbers gains another length, and is now within two. Paris Theatre was lacking response, and Di Zippy was not looking like a threat.
(Finish- 1:22.81)- An exciting stretch run develops as Golden Hour completes the pass of Old Nebraska Copy, though that one puts up a valiant fight. The biggest threat to Golden Hour would be Speedy Ginger, who was coming on strong, but just misses in the photo. Jockey P Husbands may be regretting letting Golden Hour as was done midway through the backstretch. Command Of Numbers split horses nicely and was strong in the stretch, but settles for third here, one spot ahead of Old Nebraska Copy. Paris Theatre was generally even with the others in the stretch, but never made up ground. Di Zippy did not get involved and may be another textbook example of the ill effects of three races in too short a period of time.
About The Winner- Golden Hour, trained by D J C Racing Stables and ridden to victory by E J Wilson is a two year old filly by Hannibal Lecter, and is out of Nia (by Sir Speedy). She was bred in New York as a first quarter two year old by D J C Racing Stables, the only trainer that she has ever had. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in four starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $85.060.
