The Harlan – GIII

GP Race 6 1 1/8M – Dirt
Purse $100.000
Three Year Olds and Up
Graded stakes action here at Gulfstream Park this weekend and this is one of those races on tap for Saturday. Field of ten will go in the Harlan over a mile and a sixteenth trip. Let’s take a look at the field.
1. Masons Day (15-4-5-1 $249.540), trained by Gdp Inc
First up in the field here a horse who looks well suited for this spot. He is a statebred stakes winner on the year and has been close in races like this before. Should have a good shot if he can get a good trip from the rail.
2. Shanghai (20-4-4-2 $650.400), trained by Nakamura Stables
This years San Pasqual winner back in February right here and he has been winless since that race. Some good effort in other minor graded stakes in his last couple and should have a good shot in here if he runs his race.
3. What Moon (13-4-3-0 $57.000), trained by Supremebeast
A horse who has a also won a stake on the year but that was on the free track at Laurel. He won an allowance at Turf Paradise last time and he does seem to have some talent. Not sure if he is quite up to this level yet though.
4. Champion In Action (33-7-5-5 $1030.000), trained by Night Rider Stables
Last out winner against statebred stakes competition at Calder. This horse does have a lot of back class and has ran with better in his past. Could win this race based in back class alone but he will have to run big to prove that right.
5. Warlocks Reign (10-2-1-0 $61.720), trained by TwinTowers Racing
A maiden winner only three races back and he did try graded company unsuccessfully in the next start after that. Won a statebred allowance race last time but will need a big amount of improvement to win against these runners.
6. Mexican Swagger (14-4-0-2 $378.500), trained by John Henry
Started his career four for four with New Mexico breds and has since been winless against open horses. Been thrown to the wolves quite often and looks to be outmatched in this race.
7. Magne Account (37-9-6-6 $607.460), trained by RNP Stables
An old hard knocking gelding right here and he has been running with some tough runners in his last couple. Could fit in here if he runs a big race but more likely to hit the bottom of the board.
8. Silent Commander (12-4-3-1 $564.840), trained by Serenity Stables
Another graded stakes winner on the year and he is coming into this race off of an effort in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile where he was twelfth. Better suited for this race and could have a shot here.
9. Painted Blood (41-16-4-12 $692.420), trained by John Henry
Second for John Henry in the race here and this horse has won a few minor stakes this year. He has been around a while and has ran the most of anyone in here and is still going strong. Should have a decent chance to win.
10. Hang Around (14-4-2-3 $303.990), trained by Nakamura Stables
Last one in the field here and he is coming into this race off of two statebred stakes wins in a row. Both of those sprinting though and he hasn’t ran great at a route. Bad post also so don’t see him doing much here.
11. Mad King (12-4-3-3 $362.820), trained by Mb Stables
Scratched
Summary
A nice field has been entered up and it is a very competitive race and there is no standout in this field. My top choice is going to be Shanghai in this field. Good luck to all in the race.
