Grand Opening Gets the Job Done in The TAM Stakes

The TAM Stakes – Grade III

1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $175.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Grand Opening        Riggins Racing          Morales P         nk          1:38.90

It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, but the horse did enough to win today and show us enough to know he will once again be a top contender throughout the year. On speed as always, he struggled to put them away, but I think it may have been the shorter trip rather than anything else. The question now is can he break the magic $10,000.000 by the end of the year.

2nd       Jerk Pork           TwinTowersRacing      Marquez Ch    1            1:38.97

I said this was between works and form and it was fitting that form beat works and works beat form as this one ran into a close second promising lots of success in the near future. It was unfortunate that he ran into a multiple grade one winner at this level and without Grand Opening he would’ve been an impressive winner. The stable will be looking forward to a big year with the five-year-old.

3rd        Tom Kha Gai   High Voltage   Feliciano R                     1            1:39.24

Sometimes the race engine is very predictable and the fact that with the wide draw he pushed the pace and then after not getting away from them faded into third is a book very well read. It was a solid enough first run of the year and it is clear that he is set for a similar set of results in 2026 which won’t upset his owner.

4th=       Sunflowers      TwinTowersRacing      Camacho Sa 1/2        1:39.58

The four-year-old made up some nice ground to be fourth and I feel like once the trainer has a handle on his preferences and running style he should be winning at this level soon enough.

4th=       Leary   Santan Stables             Martinez W                  1/2           1:39.58

A big effort from a horse that looked out classed. He came from the clouds for a share of fourth but with this effort under his belt is well worth following if going for this type of race next time.
