4 DED Lafitte
$100.000 2yo 7f Dirt 120lbs +penalties
If the smoke and fog clear, we may be able to see who crosses the finish line… down to DED for the Lafitte, a seven panel stakes for the youngsters, and we all know how that works out for the ol’ Cozman… no so good, as Justin Wilson would say.
In this case, I think I can safely bet my two shillings on Bold Zionist. Third in the DMR Futurity (GI) and then a dud in the Champagne (GI), but throw out that last race and he’s about as solid as I’d want in this lower end stakes.
Now, it gets tougher for me… I’ll give Steel Fortitude the slight edge for the second sport. He just missed in a stakes at WO the was sixth in the Futurity (GIII) at AQU, just two lengths back. Those were both grass races, but he showed promise on the main track at GG when second in his debut, so let’s guess he can switch back without an issue. I’ll go outside to Resurrect in the third spot. and not just because he’s in the big barn. That was a nice win at LAD in his first trip to the gate, opening up by three then getting home by three-quarters in a quick time. He could be a real good one.
So, I’ve been using the “Green Card” since 1972 as a handicapping tool… I’ve seen a handful of RL times that a horse went off the chart… Bold Zionist is off the chart in this race, so… he’s in good company with Dave’s Friend (that I remember, see the Chesapeake Hcp, 1978).
