“…you don’t mess with The King.”  Hawaiian Pirate showed that her display of speed at DMR was not a one-time thing…  contesting the pace throughout Friday’s Alcibiades (GI) at KEE, the Australia Wide trained filly stamped her pass to Championship Day, taking this win-and-you’re-in race by three quarters of a length in a stakes record time of 1:42.22 for the mile and a sixteenth.  Aldonza was second, just in front of Disney Music in third.

The eleven 2yo fillies were off with Tropics away well Hawaiian Pirate from the outside, West Coast Cooler, Aldonza and Tequila between that pair.  Then came Classy With A K from the rail, Primera Fajita and Disney Music next to that one, Arc Of Charley with Distant Waters along side and Minda was away slowest of all.

Into the clubhouse turn, and six furlongs to run, Tropics now showing the way by a length and a half.  Hawaiian Pirate keeping that one honest, another length and a half back to West Coast Cooler with Tequila next to her.  Gap of two, Klassy With A K on the rail, Primera Fajita and Disney Music with that one, then another two back to Distant Waters, four wide, Arc Of Charley to her inside, another length to Aldonza and Minda was the trailer, ten lengths covered them.

Down the backside and now into the far turn with five-sixteenth’s to run, Tropics now had company as Hawaiian Pirate moved up to join her on the lead.  A gap of three back to West Coast Cooler, Tequila to her outside, another two back to Disney Music, Primera Fajita and Klassy With A K to her inside.  It was two more back to Arc Of Charley, Distant Waters to her outside, then two more back to Aldonza saving ground and under a hold, and Minda could still see them all, ten lengths from the leader.

Around the far turn and into the stretch, they moved past the three-sixteenth’s pole and this was becoming a one-horse race.  Hawaiian Pirate was now two lengths clear of Tropics.  Two lengths back to West Coast Cooler and Disney Music,  and the rest had a lot of work to do as the wire was approaching quickly.

Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, Hawaiian Pirate with a big lead, a trio closing in quickly but not today folks… this was all about a breakout race for a 2yo filly that was putting The King back on the map as Hawaiian Pirate cruised under the wire in front by almost a length.  Aldonza closed very well for the place with Disney Music just behind that one in third.  Primera Fajita also made a late move to secure the fourth spot, Tropics in fifth, Arc Of Charley, West Coast Cooler in seventh Klassy With A K a disappointing eighth, Minda in ninth, Distant Waters in tenth and Tequila closed this one out.

Hawaiian Pirate is a 2yo bay filly by Sneaky Little Pirate – Wowie Maui, by Nebraska Daddy, and she was bred by Night Mare Racing in California.  Taken at the June 2015 Auction, prior to her racing career, for $75.020, she now has two wins from three starts and earnings of $285.000.  Keep your eyes open for this one on BC Day!
