Vigil Stakes – Grade III
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $125.00 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
Well i was right that this was a race of noses and necks as a half length covered the first five and only 3 lengths covered the whole field at the end. The thing i was wrong about was that a four year old would come out on top especially one that on recent form was a long way from his best. But that was all that wasn’t predictable as the three wide gates went on the speed from the gate and weakened out of it at the end and all form between these horses was turned around and upside down. Here’s how the lottery was won in what indeed was a race of noses and heads.
1st Mojave Rattler Mo Mentum Farm Stein J
Only at HRP would the BC Turf Mile winner be running in a dirt sprint 9 months later let alone winning it. But it has been shown many times that surface and trip can mean very little here and the four year old started a new career and who knows he could go and try for a unique BC double by taking the BC Dirt Sprint. He got a decent trip which certainly helped as the wide drawn horses were burned by the race engine but you should take nothing away from this grand horse who must be a real stable favorite for the trainer.
2nd Sparrow Hills Arindel Wilson E J
Got back as usual but picked his way through off a fast pace and very nearly stole the show. His running style certainly makes it hard to win a sprint race as has been shown in his last two races but he certainly deserves a decent race after his recent efforts.
3rd Gothic Heart SamIam Kimura K
The first three year old home he made the lead briefly but was out fought in the last furlong but only beaten a whisker into third. In his last three races he has been beaten a total of a length so he too must soon win a decent race like this.
4th Bodemister D J C Racing Stables Moran D
Out fought in the end and may have wanted to be made a little less use of through the race. Not a bad effort and was beaten just a quarter length in the end.
