Heeza Dime Earns Wire-to-Wire Fleet Sprint Handicap Win

Fleet Sprint Handicap (Grade 3)- $500.000 Purse
OP- For Four Year Olds and Upward
Six Furlongs on the Dirt
April 12, 2025

Asgar picked up Heeza Dime last September in the auction, and while the horse had been successful for his prior connections, he was never given the opportunity to run at the graded level. He’d get that chance in his last start, and while he ran well, he came home empty handed. In the Fleet Sprint Handicap, he was appealing as one of the low weights, and he would be made our pick to win. Most others did not see it that way, and he would go off as an 11/1 longshot for the race, but would make his supporters happy at the end, winning by a neck over Blue Duck. This result makes Asgar a first time Fleet Sprint Handicap winner, and that is also true for jockey Ru Silvera. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:08.49, a middle of the road such time in the race’s history. Let’s take a look at it:

(1/4 Mile- :22.09)- After battling a few of them out of the starting gate, our eventual winner from Asgar, Heeza Dime, surges to the front and the field clear by a length down the backstretch. They’re four wide behind them, with the Night Rider Stables- trained Almighwar up by a nose on Mb Stables’ Blue Duck. Everest is right there with them for Mo Mentum Farm, and running on the outside, Burnin Red Hooves is keeping pace with them for TwinTowersRacing. It’s a length to Daddys A Baller (Luz International) and the same to Max Party (La Canada Racehorses). At the back of the pack, it’s Cage Rage (Maxmillion Farm) and Alpha Wolf (Threshold).

(½ Mile- :44.89)- No one mounts a challenge on Heeza Dime down the backstretch or around the turn, as the pacesetter comfortably enjoys his length or so lead entering the top of the stretch. Blue Duck is the best of the four that had been right behind them, moving half a length ahead of Almighwar, while both Everest and Burnin Red Hooves shows signs of tiring. Daddys A Baller has a clear lane to come through close to the rail while Max Party moves to the outside. Cage Rage and Alpha Wolf still have a lot of work to do at the back.

(Finish- 1:08.49)- For much of the stretch run, Heeza Dime looks to be in good shape, but with around half a furlong to go, Blue Duck began making notable progress and it then appeared that he might complete this pass. However, Heeza Dime showed tremendous heart in the final moments, getting everything he possibly could until the wire, and that would be too much for Blue Duck to overcome. Heeza Dime wins by a neck over Blue Duck, and it’s approximately a length from him to a very tight photo for show. In that, it’s Alpha Wolf working his way forward to nip dead heating Daddys A Baller and Max Party, and they narrowly get the head bob on Almighwar. Then, also in the photo, is another dead heat between Burnin Red Hooves and Cage Range. Officially, third and eighth are separated by only .07 seconds. Everest was just a bit behind that in ninth.

About The Winner- Heeza Dime, trained by Asgar and ridden to victory by Ru Silvera, is a four-year-old gelding by Dime Defense and is out of Did Ye Aye. He was bred in Ontario as a yearling by Asgar and was reacquired by the trainer in the September 2024 auction for $14.000 from Fractious. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his seventh in 15 starts, his second stake win and first graded win. His career earnings are now $534.210.
