Grade 1 (BC) for Fillies And Mares Three Years Old and Up 1 1/16 Mile Dirt Post: 7/30/2016 18:40 at DMR
Most of the fillies in this BC win-and-you’re-in contest have met before. It all began with the BC Distaff (G1) last October at KEE where Google Maps and Hydro finished 5th and 6th. T S Razor beat Hydro in the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1). Brawl Dead End beat Hydro in the Vanity (G1) after Hydro beat Brawl Dead End in the Azeri BC. Google Maps and Distant Cousin finished 1st and 2nd in the Santa Margarita (G1). Distant Cousin, Google Maps, and T S Razor finished 1st, 2nd and 8th in the Phipps (G1). Brawl Dead End finished behind Google Maps in the La Troienne (G1).
What does this mean? I have no idea except that the best of the best keep showing up in the same places.

If you throw out her last start in the Phipps, T S Razor has had a stellar year so far that includes a win in the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1), her first win in graded company. And she did it in style, stalking the pace and taking control in the stretch. But can you throw out that last race where she finished dead last in a field of eight? We’ll find out on Saturday
2 Hydro
Owner/Breeder: Team 7 Illusions
This daughter of Charley Farley has already who $1,259.220. She started out slowly as a 2yo, but last year at three she either won or finished second in 4 of 5 graded stakes races which made her the second choice in the BC Distaff. Unfortunately, she finished 6th that day, but this year she has been on a roll again. Finished 3rd behind T S Razor in the Apple Blossom. Except for the Distaff, she hasn’t been worse than 3rd since last August, all in graded company. This could be her year.
3 Wu Wei
Owner/Breeder: Keikowin Racing
Only 2 wins to this 3yo filly’s credit, one a maiden and the other last out in state-bred Optional Claiming company. Very big step up here in this company.
4 Google Maps
Owner/Breeder: Aml Racing
Finished 2nd in the Phipps ahead of T S Razor last out. Won the Santa Margarita (G1) at SA in March. Finished 5th, just ahead of Hydro in last year’s BC Distaff. Another one with more than $1,000.000 in earnings. Should be a factor.
5 Distant Cousin
Owner/Breeder: D J C Racing Stables
This filly has only finished off the board 3 times in 19 starts and has amassed $2,490.800 in earnings. She is coming in off a 3-race winning streak and back-to-back 100 SRFs. Beat Google Maps and T S Razor in the Phipps last out, then finished behind Google Maps in the Humana Distaff (G1). You would have to go all the way back to last September for a race where she finished worse than 2nd. In fact, she won 7 of her last 8 starts which included the BC Filly & Mares Sprint. Looks like the one to beat.

Mb Stables 2nd entry isn’t as experienced as most in this field with a wire-to-wire win in the 1 1/8 mile Fleur De Lis Handicap (G2) at CD in her first start for Mb Stables and first attempt at graded stakes. You can’t completely discount her, but she was a maiden until February and just 3 wins in 12 starts.
7 Brawl Dead End

Mb’s 3rd entry, this four year olf filly made the leap to graded company with a win in the Santa Maria Stakes (G2) in February. Since then she has hit the board in her last three starts including a win last out in the Vanity (G1) at a mile. May be a little outclassed here.
