The Princess Elizabeth Stakes is in the books, and coming out victorious was Break From Holly, a filly from Nakamura Stables that we might be hearing about a lot next year as a three year old. She had been working well coming into the race, and had broken her maiden in the race prior, which was at GG. More than likely, this is a horse that just wanted to start running long, and now that she can, she is ready to make an impact in this division, and especially in Canadian-bred races should the trainer choose that route. It is the first win in the race for Nakamura Stables, as well as for jockey S Ryan. Congratulations to them! The race was won in a time of 1:42.79, a middle of the road time for this stake. Let’s take a look at it!

(¼ Mile- :24.62)- Our eventual winner, the Nakamura Stables trained Break From Holly, is the quickest out of the gate and leads the field down the frontstretch. However, she does not continue this pace, and appears to be restrained at the beginning of the opening the turn. After a quarter mile, this brought her back to the third position, and trailing the new pace setter, Emerald Racing Inc’s Chrystal Pearl by nearly three lengths. Lost In My Mind, from Mb Stables, is second on the rail, and a length ahead of Break From Holly. In the pack, the debutant Grand Phoenix (Team 7 Illusions) is slightly ahead of Lady Sammyantha (The Sidley Stud), Z Donut (Arindel), and Fuzzy Lovin (Arindel). It’s a few more lengths to Salt Gully (Night Rider Stables).

(½ Mile- :48.49)- Chrystal Pearl turns it on a little bit with a quicker second quarter of the race, mostly seen just as they were reaching the top of the backstretch. With this, she is now two and a half lengths ahead of Lost In My Mind and Break From Holly, who are now running side by side for the second position. There’s a similar gap behind them, as the now four wide group of Grand Phoenix, Lady Sammyantha, Z Donut, and Fuzzy Lovin are five lengths from the lead. Salt Gully is seven back.

(Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Chrystal Pearl is still leading, but that advantage is evaporating, especially as they get closer to the stretch. Break From Holly, had been closing the gap within the turn, and now she was within a length from the lead as she pulled up to Chrystal Pearl’s outside. Lost In My Mind, who had been running with Break From Holly for most of the race would not go with her, coming up a bit empty at this point, as Lady Sammyantha was directly right beside her now, and a couple lanes over, Fuzzy Lovin was in the similar position. Z Donut was in close proximity, but needing a little more. The maidens, not surprisingly, trailed.

(Finish- 1:42.79)- Break From Holly cruises on past Chrystal Pearl, just we saw coming at the top of the stretch. She was in full stride still, as the pacesetter puts up no fight at all. Right behind her, Lady Sammyantha and Fuzzy Lovin were matching Break From Holly’s stride, but when you were a length behind her, that is not quite going to be good enough. Break From Holly did well to stay in front of them, winning by about a length over a tight photo for second which sees Fuzzy Lovin edge out Lady Sammyantha. Two lengths back, Z Donut is fourth, beating Chrystal Pearl for the final piece of the purse, and Lost In My Mind is sixth. Badly defeated are Salt Gully and Grand Phoenix.

About The Winner- Break From Holly, trained by Nakamura Stables, and ridden to victory by S Ryan, is a two year old filly by Hollywood Latte, and is out of Commodity Break. She was bred in Ontario by Nakamura Stables as a second quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in four starts, and her first stake win. Her career earnings are now $173.200.
