The Man o War – Grade I
BEL Race 6 1 3/8M – InTurf
Purse $700.000
Four Year Olds and Up
This race has a big standout in last years Horse Of The Year in Clockwork Chai. Now he is not the only horse who can win as Controlled Power is also in here and he’s won two grade one races in a row Including a win against Clockwork Chai in the Kilroe Mile. Also Taniwha who’s won two graded stakes in his last three starts. There is also rain in the forecast so that will be interesting.
1. Going Gone (16-4-5-1 $191.920), trained by Team 7 Illusions
With the recent form of the horse he isn’t going to be counted out with maybe a longshot look in here. With rain maybe being a factor he has only ran on an off track once in his lifetime and it was an out of the money finish. He will really have to step up his game to win but if it’s an off track everything is question mark.
2. Controlled Power (13-5-3-1 $658.500), trained by Spankys Barn
This horse has been on fire as of late with four wins in a row with three of them being stakes and two of them being grade one events. He beat Clockwork Chai two back in the Kilroe Mile and last start won the Makers Mark Mile last start at KEE beating some very good horses. One start on an off track was no good but he’s a very good horse.
3. Penitentiary (12-2-0-2 $37.970), trained by D J C Racing Stables
The runner from the old wizard of D J C Racing Stables barn is going to make his stakes debut in here in a grade one stakes race. In what will be in fourth career start on turf he’s never ran on a soft turf course so that will be a big question mark. Maybe the wizard can pull a trick out of his hat and get this horse in the winners circle.
4. Moscow Court (16-5-4-2 $276.420), trained by Mb Stables
This horse may wind up on the lead because he’s been running in five furlongs turf sprints in his last nine basically. He hasn’t ran over six furlongs in over a year and four months. So who knows how he will take to this far of a distance. He is two for three on a wet track so he at least likes an off track. Big question mark on the distance.
5. Techfluence (28-9-5-7 $1288.890), trained by The Sidley Stud
Arguably one of the best long distance turf horses in the game this horse has a very good chance to win this race. He is also three for four on the off track surface so rain will probably not hurt his chances at all. He’ll be up close to the pace most likely and has a very good chance to win this race.
6. Clockwork Chai (17-13-2-1 $4715.800), trained by Mb Stables
Lars years BC Turf winner and reigning HRP Horse Of The Year is coming to this race off a half length defeat in the Kilroe Mile. He is a win machine and so very consistent and has to be the favorite of the race. The only thing is if the race comes up with an off track the race will be up in the air for him.
7. Taniwha (11-5-3-0 $575.660), trained by Aml Racing
Another very good long distance turf house he’s won two grade two stakes races at a mile and a half in his last three starts. He’s never hit the board on an off surface but he’s also only ran on it once. If the track comes up dry he has a very good chance but if it comes up wet who knows what will happen.
Summary
Obviously the big three in here are Clockwork Chai, Techfluence and Controlled Power. Rain will make this race a big throw up but if it stays dry they could very easily go one, two, three. The others behind that are Taniwha and Going Gone. If it rains though who knows who the winner will be.
