12 SA BC Juvenile Turf – GI
$1,000.000 2yo 1m Turf Weight 122lbs
The youngsters and the turf course continue to be in my dreams as we look at the field for the BC Juv Turf (GI) going a flat mile on the SA sod. The story of me and the baby races continues to be a horror story, which with Halloween being this close, I guess that adds up. The phrase “wide open” is obviously used too much, but this one looks like anyone’s race to win.
With that being said, who do I like? The fact that the Green Card and I have little in common helps to explain things, per usual… I’m lost. I landed on the lightly raced Perfect Sunday as the top pick. Again, Mb has a tendency to rise to the BC races and I love the way he was flying home in that Summer (GI) race at WO. That was a solid one-mile work turned in on the 20th, and I think he just keeps getting better and the big barn keeps getting richer.
Lights Camera Action is another that certainly deserves a big look, and he’s my second pick here. That was a big run after the vet stopped by, and if he can run back to that Bourbon (GII) win, he’s going to be tough, tough, tough. He ran big prior to that, but he looks like a monster now that the breeding shed is out of the picture.
Let’s put Trouble Brewing in the third spot as he’s really run well on the grass and the new barn plunked down a pretty penny to put this one in their shed-row. That was a big run at DMR in the OT Juv (GIII) and another like that and he could get his picture taken.
So, with that, you can dismiss everything I’ve said and go to the betting windows with more questions than answers… because if there’s one thing I can do, it’s brought confusion to a two-year-old race… again, call Ali. Good luck and congratulations to all involved.
Here’s The Field –
Has never run a bad race, and broke maiden last out taking down stakes horses in the Zuma Beach (GIII) over this track and at the distance. Fought a tough battle late to get home by the narrowest of margins. He also just missed in the With Anticipation (GIII) so it looks like he’s rounding into form at just the right time to make some noise today.
Super sharp gelding that has been on top of his game… Won the Skidmore on the soggy SAR sod, and just missed in the Summer (GI) at WO, last out. This one just hits me as a war-horse type and I think he’s going to not only be tough today, but I’ll say now that I think he will have a very successful career… back to today… watch him.
Three wins from seven starts and none bigger than that last out romp in the Bourbon (GII) and you have to wonder if the vet played a big part in that big victory. He was running well, but the gelding certainly seemed to focus this one and I think he is a horse that you have to give a big look at today.
Only two starts, but the big barn seems to have another monster on their hands… won at first asking then closed well to be third in the Summer (GI) at WO, then add in a bunch of sharp works over this strip, you can see that the trainer really has this one ready to go.
Broke maiden at first asking and has been close in a number of other races. including a second in the fore-mentioned Bourbon (GII) at KEE. That is his only turf try, so he has every chance to improve off of that race, and that could be very bad for the rest of these.
Two wins and a third since changing hands and the vet stopped by, and he certainly turned some heads when he closed fast to take the KD Juv and bank a big payday in that one. He looks like a real weed-eater and should be right in the middle of this when they turn for home.
Won two in a row and that was enough to get Maxmillion Farm to throw a heaping helping of cash to the old owner and take over the duties on this one. Broke maiden on the FE turf then took the OT Juv Turf at DMR at 20/1 odds. You don’t get that today, if I had to guess… he’s a contender.
Second part of the Max 3-horse entry and he looked really good taking the With Anticipation (GIII) at SAR but bounced when seventh in the Bourbon (GII) at KEE in his most recent trip to the gate. Still, he has some real talent and could be overlooked, so … beware.
The switch to the green stuff certainly sat well with this one… Broke maiden on the MTH sod, then won the Summer (GI) at WO, so this one is certainly a horse that deserves a big look. He showed speed in that maiden win and then came from off of the pace last out, so he looks dynamic and that could be very handy in a big field.
The third part of the Max entry and he never seems to run a bad race… broke maiden at DMR, then was second over that course in the OT Juv (GIII) then third in the Zuma Beach (GIII) over this track… both of those stakes were beaten a neck, so he was right in the thick of them and should be the same in this one.
No bad races from this one… three starts and a 1-1-1 from those, lands him in the “horse to watch” group here. He broke maiden at first asking, then was third in the KD Juv, and closed a late gap to just miss in the Zuma Beach (GIII) over this course… certainly a horse to watch.
Nothing but green stuff for this guy… he broke maiden at first asking on the PRX sod, then closed a late gap to be beaten two lengths in the Soaring Free, up north of the border only to come back and win the Pilgrim (GII) at AQU. If he repeats that run, they’d best be careful because he could be the one to get past.
The big barn has a tough rascal in this one… Broke maiden in his second trip to the gate, then set the pace in the Pilgrim (GII) only to end up second in that tough race. You always have to watch this outfit on BC Day, and this could be their best chance to take this race.
Solid gelding that has two wins and two thirds from his four starts, breaking maiden at first asking, then winning an Alw race at DMR before thirds in both the OT Juv (GIII) and Pilgrim (GII) where he faced a bunch of these. Can he turn the table and take the win? I wouldn’t be surprised.
Hasn’t been on the weeds, but does show a solid work over this course, but would need some luck to draw in.
Three wins in a row, two of them on the sod, including the Cup & Saucer at WO, so this group might really want to get in to see what they have.
Broke maiden at first asking, won his turf debut on the MTH lawn vs. Alw types and was fourth in the Bourbon (GII)… but he would need a slew of scratches to make it.
