The Adirondack (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
SAR- For Fillies Two Years Old
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Dirt
August 8, 2021
A couple days ago, Mb Stables won the Sorrento Stakes at DMR with Paris Pinnacle Party. Today in the Adirondack, he would pull of a sweep of the two big stakes that were run for two year old fillies over the weekend as Incendiary earning the win. Mb Stables recently has had two juvenile fillies win horse of the year, so while this is a stable that excels at everything, it’s pretty clear that he has a special knack for getting the job done within this division. Incendiary, who was our pick in the preview, won the Schuylerville here as well at the beginning of the meet and has now won four of her five races. It’s actually the first time that Mb Stables has won this race and the second time that jockey J R Velazquez has done so. You have to go back to 2006 and Wyvern for that other win. Congratulations to them! The race was run in a time of 1:15.66, the second quickest edition of this race in history. Let’s take a look!
(¼ Mile- :22.88)- Grandest Lady bursts out of the starting gate for La Canada Racehorses and will enjoy a length and a half lead in the early moments of the race. There are three stalkers, and one of them is our eventual winner, Incendiary, who is between horses and in the third position for Mb Stables. The Nation runs second here for Arindel as she runs in the third. On the rail, Moment To Dream, the recent big ticket purchase from Fractious, is fourth. It’s another length to Woo Doggie (Jive Inc) and Laughing Poet (Maxmillion Farm), and they have Keno Queen nearby. Trailing are Rig For Red (TwinTowersRacing) and Have One On Me (Fractious), though neither is too far out of it.
(½ Mile- :45.74, Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Grandest Lady is looking real good as she exits the backstretch and runs around the turn. She seems to handle it very well, and enters the stretch with a lead of about two lengths. Up until now, no one has gotten close to her. The Nation holds the second spot still, but runs wide in the turn. Incendiary is third, and still a half length behind that one, much like she was before. For the moment, she has not made a move to the front. Moment To Dream might be losing a little bit of ground on the rail now, while Woo Doogie makes a four wide move around the turn. Both Laughing Poet and Keno Queen are close to them, but have not made a move. It’s a couple lengths to Have One On Me and a couple more to the struggling Rig For Red.
(Finish- 1:15.66)- In the stretch, Grandest Lady is still looking good, seemingly in good stride and holding a length and a half advantage with a furlong to go. Even after six furlongs, it was still looking like this race was going to be hers, as even though Incendiary was gaining ground, she did not seem to be coming on fast enough. But Incendiary was not going to be content with a second place finish here, with a stunning response in the closing strides, and Grandest Lady could not do anything about it. She’ll get the win by half a length over Grandest Lady, who barely ends up second over the hard closing Woo Doggie. That one looked good as well, and may have fared better without the outside trip. They are four wide for fourth with the closing Laughing Poet getting the final cut of the purse over Keno Queen. Moment To Dream and The Nation were part of that group, too. Have One On Me was another length or so back, and Rig For Red is left seeing blue with a very disappointing finish.
About The Winner- Incendiary, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J R Velazquez, is a two year old filly by Fire N Fury, and is out of Perplexed. She was bred by Mb Stables as a yearling in Ontario, and they have been together throughout! Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in five starts, her third stake and second graded win, each of which have come during this meet. Her career earnings are now $291.200.
