Indian Summer Is Insurmountable in Indian Summer

Indian Summer (BC)- $250.000 Purse
KEE- For Two Year Olds
Five and Half Furlongs on the Turf
October 9, 2022

It isn’t common for a horse to be entered into a stake that shares its name, and a lot less common for said horse to actually win the race. In the Indian Summer, we had a good chance of that happening, as the horse Indian Summer seemed to be the one to beat, and would be the post time favorite. It all seemed as though it was fate, and the result of the race would not disappoint those that were hoping for this unique result to happen. Indian Summer would indeed win the Indian Summer. He is trained by Diablo Diablo, and he has tasted victory here before, doing so in 2020 with the late Darth Charley. Aboard the winner was R M Hernandez, a first time winner. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:02.84. Let’s take a look at it!

(1/4 Mile- :22.43)- Super Fam jumps out to an uncontested lead down the backstretch for Team 7 Illusions, as she tried to steal the spotlight away from the boys. There are three behind her that are neatly lined up, and we can give Omega Nebulae, from Mb Stables, the slight edge for the second spot as he runs between horses. Obfuscator is running close by on his outside, and on the rail, it’s Arindel’s Pollos Hermanos. There’s another group of three a length behind them, and they are also neatly lined up. Insilca, from First Flight Stable, is fifth in between horses, with Our Holiday (Our Athletes) and Mediterranean Sea (Mo Mentum Farm) on the inside. There is a two length gap to the two trailers, and one of them is our eventual winner, Diablo Diablo’s Indian Summer. This was unexpected as he is typically a frontrunner. Luna Dream (Asgar) keeps him company back there.

(½ Mile- :45.36, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Super Fam leads the way around the turn, but as we approach the stretch, a couple of those who had been stalking her begin to close in, and the half mile point, Omega Nebulae is right alongside her. Pollos Hermanos moved off the rail, and looks to come in between them, and is only half a length behind them while Obfuscator is very much still in the picture while running four wide in fourth. Insilca and Our Holiday were not really making a push, and Mediterranean Sea seemed to be lacking response. Further back, Indian Summer was just beginning to pick it up, but still had about three lengths to make up. The story was similar for Luna Dream.

(Finish- 1:02.84)- With a furlong to go, many were probably thinking this race was going to be decided between Omega Nebulae and Pollos Hermanos as both seemed to be running well. However, the favorite, Indian Summer was making progress on the inside, and began to look like a major threat in the closing moments of the race. Luna Dream was also passing horses. Just when it looked like Pollos Hermaos had put Omega Nebulae away, Indian Summer got the crowd on their feet as he was on a mission on the outside, having a speed that no one else in the field could match. He would blow on by Pollos Hermaos late, and win by half a length. He was a length ahead of the closing Luna Dream, who got by the fading Omega Nebulae for those valuable points. Obfuscator is fifth, followed by Super Fam, Mediterranean Sea, Insilca, and Our Holiday.

About the Winner- Indian Summer, trained by Diablo Diablo, and ridden to victory by R M Hernandez, is a two year old colt by Cherokee Sunset and is out of Always Alicia. He was bred in Ontario by Diablo Diablo as a first quarter two year old, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fourth in seven starts and his third stake win. His career earnings are now $664.360.
