KD Juvenile Sprint- $500.000 Purse
KD- For Two Year Olds
Six and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
September 8, 2022
We have ourselves a favorite for the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint. Heading into the KD Juvenile Sprint, Indian Summer had done everything right, with wins in two out of five races and two more runner ups. That made him the favorite here, and our pick, and in this race he would show why he was so highly regarded. Indian Summer earned a length victory here in the race, and even though the BC Juvenile Turf Sprint can always seem to be more up for grabs than other BC races, expect Indian Summer to be heavily bet in a couple months. He is trained by Diablo Diablo and was ridden by R M Hernandez, and each score their first win in this stake, although it was just the second running of it. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:14.57. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :23.12)- Whiskey Drink, trained by First Flight Stable, will be the early leader and initially opens up a length lead. There would be four stalkers behind him, but as the field approaches this long KD turn, Asia Minor, trained by D J C Racing Stables and running in the fifth lane, is now within half a length form the lead. The others that were a part of the stalking group would also move down a lane, setting us up for a potential five wide run around the turn. Jerry Garcia Racing’s Obfuscator was in the second lane here, with the filly, Aarons Hosses- trained Believe Me Natalie running beside him. Our eventual winner, Diablo Diablo’s Indian Summer, was also a part of the group, but content to be about a half length behind the others as he ran in the fourth lane. Leading the next group would be Big Papa Pump, for Dmc Racing and he would have Luna Dream (Asgar) on his inside and Citizen Kane (Arindel) on his outside. The trailers are Fight Event (Williams9) and Spider Shadows (Our Athletes).
(½ Mile- :46.06, Top of Stretch, 2F To Go)- We would get our five way battle for the lead during the turn, and Whiskey Drink was doing all he could to hold to the lead. Towards the exit of the turn, we would see Indian Summer begin to have more interest in battling the other four, and he would squeeze his way between Believe Me Natalie and Asia Minor at this point before emerging as the race leader by the time we reached the top of the stretch. Obfuscator, at this point, was looking like the bigger threat of the lead group, but the biggest challenge looked like it would come from Big Papa Pump, a horse that patiently stalked the stalkers before having a lane of his own open up, this to the inside to Believe Me Natalie. His problem was that he was still a length behind Indian Summer, and would have to find a way to make that up in the stretch. Some room may have been there for Luna Dream, but he would have a bigger task at hand to get the win. For the rest, time was running out.
(Finish- 1:14.57)- Indian Summer did not overpower the rest of the field early in the stretch, but all he needed to do was run evenly with them at this point, and that is exactly what he was doing. Obfuscator, Big Papa Pump, and Luna Dream were not making any progress on him this way. If they were hoping Indian Summer would come back to them in the late moments of the race, they would not get what they wanted as Indian Summer continued running well, and extended his lead a little approaching the wire. It was close for second, and it will be Big Papa Pump getting the spot over Obfuscator and Luna Dream, and it’s essentially another length to Believe Me Natalie and Spider Shadows. Whiskey Drink, Asia Minor, Fight Event, and Citizen Kane round it out.
About The Winner- Indian Summer, trained by Diablo Diablo, and ridden to victory by R M Hernandez is a two year old colt by Cherokee Sunset, who continued to churn out the good ones. He is out of Always Alicia, and was bred in Ontario by Diablo Diablo as a first quarter two year old. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his third in six starts, and his second stake win. His career earnings are now $514.360.
