Intrigue and interest in San Simeon Stakes

San Simeon Stakes – Grade III
SA Race #6 5 1/2f Turf Graded Stake
Purse $100.000 For Three Year Olds And Upward.

1 Broomsticks Heir Drabfantasy Rispoli U

This seven year old only has 13 races to his name but thats not unusual from one of more patient stables at HRP. He was having his first race fro a year when second in an optional Claimer last time out but had been recording electric work outs prior to it and if he lives up to them and takes improvement on that race he may just be a surprise package in this race.

2 Sundays Sauce Calia Stable Prat F

This four year old entire was an improving sort last year running his best races over a mile plus which may be a sticking point today. He ran a cracker from the wide gate when beaten just a length in the Shadwell Turf Mile and started this year off with a strong third beaten just a half length in the Thunder Road. I am not sure why the trainer has brought him back to sprinting but he is pretty quick and has the draw everyone wants so i expect a big run.

3 Overhauled Gdp Inc Lermyte J

When he won the Quick Call last year he looked like a real improving sprinter but his improvement stalled in two big sprints after that mainly thanks to the draws of death he received. Back to good draws and back in grade he looked fast again and was pretty impressive over this trip on seasonal debut and i rather think he is up for a big effort today. The draw is key here and though he may not have the ideal jockey everything else is ticking boxes.

4 Gleaming Spirit Mb Stables Lezcano J

The reining BC Sprint Champ he was hugely impressive on seasonal debut when taking the Turf Dash in 56 and 1 and i really feel this is his race for the losing especially as he gets another great draw.

5 Flooded Estero Farms Baze T C

Just a length behind Gleaming Spirit in the BC Turf sprint he showed he had trained on with a good effort to be fourth in the GP Turf Sprint and with some luck he could well be a winning chance on his efforts in the Parx Sprint and the Nearctic Stakes. His works this year are sharp and his draw good enough so with the luck required he could be looking at win number ten.

6 Pennys Pearl Angelos Stable Pennington F

This is rather typical of a HRP horse with the class gene installed as the once stakes winning router became a stakes winning sprinter at the flip of a hat. After 13 races over longer trips some for the best player in the game she was flipped into sprints and won the grade three Las Ciengas Stakes just like she was always meant to race over minimum trips. She has already paid back his rather cheap price tag many times and could once again add some money to the profit pot. The most interesting thing of course is the fact that she gets a five pound pull at the weights even more than the three year old.

7 Milford Sound Mwn Racing Pereira T J

A promising type in his younger days he is lightly raced and until recently seen as a dirt sprinter rather than a turf one. He ran his first and only turf race last time and it seemed to make very little difference as he ran much better than his finishing position suggested in the Colonel Power Stakes. A chance today but on the face of it he has something to find.

8 Pip Ferro John Henry Jaramillo E

Make no mistake this is a very fast horse and did very well on seasonal debut to chase home Gleaming Spirit in the Turf Dash. Bought for $75 after that run he looks well worth that price however he runs today but he is entitled to go very close even if he cant beat Gleaming Spirit.

9 Salili Nakamura Stables Fuentes Ru

Switches back to turf after successful efforts on the dirt he again advertises that the class gene is far more important than the trip or surface. The draw will be tricky but he has two important things on his side, firstly he has the in form Nakamura Stables to find some tactics to win with and secondly he has Cherokee Sunset sitting at the top of his gene pool.

10 Dawning Drei Oquinn Farm Gutierrez Mario

Beaten just a half length in the BC juvenile Turf Sprint this will be very interesting as this three year old has no right competing with older horses with just a 3Lb advantage but if he does then things will look very bad for the older horses in the next 9 months. Its a very bold entry but this is a very fast three year old who has been sharpened up with a good seasonal debut run.

11 Kid Commander Allinthegate Arroyo N Jr

With 5 wins from just 8 races this lightly raced four year old should be approaching his prime but he gets no favors from the random draw generator today and may find it tough to win from here. Watch the track bias though and if a motorway on the outside develops he could be the surprise package.

12 Realization Jokerjoes Blanc B

A nice enough sort but his form wasnt good enough before the draw came out and now it would have to take a little HRP miracle to see him winning.

SUMMARY

In the real world i would be liking the chances of the mare Pennys Pearl in this race but fillies and mares dont do as well against the males as their real life counterparts so i would have to reluctantly pass her over. I like the three year old too but 3Lbs at this time of year just shouldnt be possible against a reining BC Champ so again i have to pass it over. That leaves Gleaming Spirit out on his own and with the perfect draw i cant see him beaten.
