1 Izzy Mandelbaum YME Stable Van Dyke D
A very consistent five year old he comes back from 12 furlongs to 6 furlongs today and whilst in real life that may be a strange thing for a five year old at HRP the trip can make little difference at times. A decent sprinter in overnight grade he looks to get back to winning ways today coming back to that discipline and his works certainly suggest he will welcome it. If he finds his groove today he could be a surprise winner.
2 Big Tuna Alydar Stables Lanerie C J
The six year old gets the best draw and has been in pretty good form recently. He knows how to win with 9 wins to his name but recently he hasn’t been asked to compete at this level. He normally gets back a bit and this seems to be his minimum trip so he will be running on at the end if the gaps come.
3 When Your Strange Maxmillion Farm Court J K
Three good thirds recently in grade three events he has certainly been steadily improving since being claimed last year. His last work was sharp and there are plenty of ticks in his boxes for a race like this.
4 Fracas Rampage Stable Gaffalione T
A solid enough sprinter in an open looking race. He has been bold at overnight level but generally disappointing at this one so will need to step up here although his last two efforts have been good enough to use as a launching pad.
5 Devilish Details Mb Stables Bridgmohan S X
One of the more accomplished sprinters in the field he disappointed last time out but ran well in the Fleet Sprint Handicap before that suggesting that he has enough ability to win a race like this. His works are OK so he must be down as a very good chance.
6 Sunline Gdp Inc Saez G
As i move through these horses looking at form and work times it becomes harder and harder to pick a difference between them. This one again has been a solid enough sprinter but not really at this level and his works are as good as most so it is really hard to place him at this point.
7 Prince Tudor Angelos Stable Graham J
A five year old with ten wins, like many here he hasn’t broken through at this level but is good enough to warrant consideration. A repeat of his good effort in the GP Sprint Handicap would see him go very close here.
8 Bavarian Motor Works D J C Racing Stables Geroux F
He has hit his straps nicely recenty putting together a decent and consistent record at a lower grade. The trouble is a look at his works and form put him pretty much the same as most of the others so it is hard to single him out. Certainly could win but a lot will come down to tiny differences at the end of the race.
9 Anthony Van Dyck Nakamura Stables Garcia Mar
Yes you guessed it, here is another solid enough sprinter working the same as everything else but without consistent stakes form. I liked his win last time out in an Optional Claimer and with most of his runs being over longer trips this may just be the discipline that will see him stringing some wins together.
10 Tugela Force Allinthegate Bejarano R
A lightly raced four year old, this one has more upside than most in this field. He looked good when third in the Phoenix Gold Handicap last time under top weight but like so many here falls into that maybe catagorey.
11 Absolute Immunity Winning Link Stables Beschizza A
Another lightly raced four year old that looks very similar to Tugela Force in many ways, in fact even their last works was almost the same. A good win last time and good enough in other races to suggest he too goes into the race with just about the same chance as everything else.
12 Serious Havoc Angelos Stable Hernandez B J Jr
In the car park we find this four year old who again has some solid sprinting form around this sort of level. The draw makes it very tough but he looks an improving type so that may not stop him.
SUMMARY
Well i must admit about halfway through this race i found myself writing the same thing about each horse. All have decent enough form to win and very similar work times so it s virtually impossible to separate them pre race. Therefore this one will come down to the draw, the start and a bit of luck. On that basis i will just box the first four stalls in the hope that i hit the exacta.
