Four time stakes winner Drop The Hammer ( Alydar Stables ) has the honor of the rail position in this season’s The Correction Stakes, and coming off a victory in the $50.000 Minaret Stakes at today’s distance, he will be the one to beat today.
- The Correction- Purse $100.000
- Aqueduct Racetrack- For Fillies & Mares Four Years old and up
- Six furlongs in Distance- Main Track
- Saturday March 14th, 2020
Five will go postward here for this six panel event and as I looked over the field, Drop The Hammer definitely caught my eye with her current past six races. Four wins and a runner-up effort is quite impressive and she also added a victory in the $30.000 Phoenix at TUP to close out last season, so looking for her winning way to continue once again. Last years winner of this event broke from the rail position as well.
Main competition should come from post five and the likes of As The World Turns ( Angelos Stable ). Definitely wont be any Soap Opera drama with this five year old as she too has been impressive of late. Was claimed off a victory as the 3-5 favorite for $20.000, and new trainer has had two more victories with her since the claim, so she definitely knows how to bring home the gold. While she has no stakes wins to her credit, she does have the Chai Latte bloodline in her veins, and it is known to produce some keen foals.
To complete my trifecta bet I would prefer Vibration ( Smokey Stover ) over Immortal Steel ( Wolf Ridge Stables ), as that one finished just a half length back of Drop The Hammer in the most recent Minaret event as the even money favorite. Immortal Steel has been racing at a higher level of competition with a win in the $100.000 La Verdad and just missing by a head in a threeway photo in the most recent Broadway. Both those events came over this surface as well and Immortal Steel may very well go odds on favorite on Saturday with the local handicappers, but jockey choices generally will sway me one way or the other to a specific horse.
Two time career winner and final entry of Kula ( Asgar ) did impress with breaking her maiden, then going on to capture an Alw35 affair at the Fairgrounds to close out last season, but her opener of the year in the $75.000 Mardi Gras stakes had her in ninth some six shy. All her most recent have been on the grass and that footing seems to favor her style of running, so sometimes the transition to the main track can deem to be disappointing.
