Purse $125.00 (plus up to $18.75 for ON-breds) For Two Year Olds.
An even looking juvenile with plenty of chances, here is how they line up: |
1 Armor Plate, trained by Barcelona Farms
A good debut second was followed by a strong maiden win at GG so like many of these he has proven ability it is just whether he can make the step up in grade. Despite two good efforts on dirt his turf works have always been strong and it looks like his trainer has been holding out for this type of race.
2 Rounder, trained by Bigking
Another that has won on dirt but has shown in his works that turf may be his forte. A debut winner at GG he showed plenty of speed and ran away with that four furlong maiden but this is a step up and we have to take on trust his ability to handle it. A turfers conformation and a blistering work at BEL make him an attractive betting proposition.
3 End Of War, trained by Odilo Machado
Another debut winner who impressed with an easy win he has also shown some turf ability in his works. Its pretty hard to judge where he is against these as that maiden win was only at ALB but a decent conformation for an early season juvenile gives him a shot.
4 Star Of India, trained by Red Square Stables
Still a maiden after two efforts he has run two decent races but hasn’t cut the mustard so far. You only have to look at his works to realise that the reason for those defeats may be the surface that he ran on so I expect a much better effort today. A look at his breeding and conformation suggest this sixth furlong will suit.
5 An Ornery One, trained by Oval Express Farms
Just another piece of a very complicated puzzle this one has run two good races with a win last time out. His win came on an easy surface at AP and since then he has clocked up a 1.36 mile work making him one of the leading turf workers of his age in training at the moment. His conformation doesn’t scream turf but its hard to get past that work.
6 Removed By Fire, trained by Drabfantasy
A game winner in two furlong maiden at GG his turf works are good enough to give him a shout in this. Its difficult to weigh up his ability on that single run but the trainer is a juvenile specialist so he is worth a long hard look at.
7 Different Dogma, trained by Stald Gullis
A debutant with plenty of ability he would have to be s super special prospect to win this in his first start. Whatever he does today he will be in the top flight of that I am sure.
8 Rising Light, trained by Nakamura Stables
Ran a decent second on debut and then destroyed a maiden field at EMD it is tough to rule anything out in this race especially with a sub 1.11 turf work but all of these are running those types of work times. Although clearly very good I feel this is a strong field and he would do well to make the top three.
9 Spriritual Ghost, trained by Drabfantasy
Fillies get a useful weight pull in this and this impressive debut winner must be in with every chance. Her turf works have been very good so with a few less pounds on her back she should be right in this.
10 Lady Lois Of Wynne, trained by Drabfantasy
The trainer has a strong hand in this race but I feel this maiden may be the weakest of his entries. She has worked well on the turf and her third last time was pretty good so she is certainly not out of a place hope but in a tough race to handicap you have to rule out some.
11 Hanjeleena, trained by Night Rider Stables
An easy free track maiden winner she may be out of her depth here.
12 Simply Magic, trained by Chili King Stables
Still a maiden after two and drawn in the car park he will need plenty to go his way to be in this.
AE Stupid Femur, trained by Lemax Stables
His best chance of any money here may be to miss the race.
AE Wednesdayinthe valley, trained by Aarons Horses
A decent turf work wont be enough even if this maiden makes the field.
AE Laffin Sippin, trained by Stald Gullis
A debut runner who isn’t without credentials, he will be on my watch list whether he makes this field or not.
AE Koan, trained by Team 7 Illusions
Still a maiden and not good enough even if he draws in.
SUMMARY
Forget trying to pick a winner here just get the notebook out and jot down the potential turf superstars of the future.
