The Swale Stakes – Grade III
7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Open 3 Year Olds.
1st Jacks Courage Mb Stables Silvera Ru 6.05 1nk 1:23.02
This horse has taken a long time to really get it together, but he is flying this year, and this may not be the last we see of him on the road to the KYD. Whether it’s a match for the new race engine or just natural improvement, I guess we won’t know until the next race engine, but for now he is two from two this year and has stepped up his game in both wins. He coped with the wide draw again today which is certainly something new on this engine and whereas last year over shorter trip he looked just a little like a game mid-level horse this year he is beginning to look like the real deal.
His next race will be key, but it would be great to see him over a longer trip in one of the big KYD races.
2nd Blue Duck Barcelona Farms Wilson E J 18.90 21 1:23.09
I rather thought this one would run a race today, but the wet track and the instructions beat him as he went far too hard early on and paid the price down the stretch. As it was though it was only in the last few strides that he gave way, and I think with a dry track and a stalk he could well become a KYD contender.
3rd Hurricane Fly Fractious Moran D 5.15 31/2 1:23.44
Even with a very fast pace on an off track this new race engine is very hard to win on with closers. Flying late he grabbed third at the end and promised that there is more to come from him. I guess the problem comes in realizing his desire to come from the back but keeping him close enough to launch a winning challenge, that may not be possible at the moment but even a small adjustment would bring this one into the KYD picture.
4th Dirty Dirty Sin Arindel Velazquez J R 8.25 4hd 1:23.56
Scrapped home for fourth we will have to wait until his next start to see if the track suited him or not.
