La Troienne (Grade 1)- $500.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies and Mares Four Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Dirt
May 3, 2019
About a month ago, Nolespan Racing entered a horse named Zombie Lady into a graded stake that did not have much information to go by and was lightly raced. Now, the trainer has done it again, as Jakes Language, a young’un compared to the ones she was racing against, did not have much information for the betting public to go by, either. Therefore, she went off at odds of 73/1 in this five horse race while the others were well-bet. Jakes Language has now introduced herself to this division, and get the trainer’s first career win in the stake. For jockey I Ortiz Jr, it is his second win, having also won in 2017 with Dirty Deeds. Congratulations to them! The time of the race in the mud was 1:45.53. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :24.47)- Honey Dew is quick out of the starting gate and opens up a two length lead rapidly for her trainer, Maxmillion Farm. That lead holds for much of the opening turn, but Pumpernickel Basil, out of D J C Racing Stables, does begin to close in on her just a little bit. In the middle of the field, Red Trance (Fractious) and Too Much Wisdom (Mb Stables) run side by side, and are three lengths off the lead. Our eventual winner, Nolespan Racing’s Jakes Language is at the back of the back all by herself, trailing by five.
(½ Mile- :49.06)- Making our way down the backstretch, Honey Dew continues to hold on to a lead of a length and a half. Pumpernickel Basil would never put any additional pressure on her, and was content with her stalking trip at this time. Midway through the backstretch trip, we begin to see Too Much Wisdom show more interest, as she pulls away from Red Trance, and inches a little closer to the top two. Jakes Language continues to run at the back, unhurried, and has a six length gap to make up now.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- Honey Dew is still holding on to the lead, and remained in good stride while rounding the turn and reaching the stretch. However, her rivals were bearing in on her. While Pumpernickel Basil had been the one stalking her most of the way, her first challenge would come from Too Much Wisdom, who was now side by side with Pumpernickel Basil, and advancing well. Meanwhile, as the frontrunners were exiting the final turf, the presence of Jakes Language starting become more and more concerning as she made an emphatic move and seemed to be in all out drive at the top of the stretch. She had cut her deficit now to just under three lengths and was looking for more. Red Trance now trailed, never becoming a factor.
(Finish- 1:45.53)- In the stretch, Jakes Language carried her momentum well and closed in on the leaders rather quickly. Too Much Wisdom put up a fight, and for a little bit, they were matching strides before Jakes Language found an additional gear that her rival did not have in order to win the race, and light up the board in the process. Too Much Wisdom did nothing wrong, but finishes second. Pumpernickel Basil was third, but never a threat to the top two. Honey Dew hung around until about a furlong to go, then packed it in, but would beat Red Trance.
About The Winner- Jakes Language, trained by Nolespan Racing and ridden to victory by I Ortiz Jr, is a four year old filly by Splendid Jake, and is out of Chica Hablar. She was bred in New Mexico as a first quarter two year old by Nolespan Racing, the only trainer for which she has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her second in just three career starts, and it is her first stake win of any sort. Her career earnings are now $321.300.
