Only a field of five for this years running of the NM Classic Cup Sprint here at Zia on NM Classic Cup day. Last years winner Kapa Gold is back to defend his title and the 2016 winner of the race Five Ghosts is also in this field. Lets take a look at the field.

1. Torque Converter (6-1-2-1 $72.400), trained by Greeko Holdem

The first runner in the field is coming into this race off of a second place finish in the Darnell Handicap over at Albuquerque. He opted to go in this race instead of the three year old race so Greeko Holdem must be confident. He should have a good shot to win this.

2. Slack Tide (13-4-2-3 $58.140), trained by T Boy Racing

My runner in the field and he is obviously the longshot in this field coming off a defeat in a eight dollar claimer about two weeks ago. I just threw him in this race to make sure the race would go and so I could have something in here. He should round out the field.

3. Kapa Gold (5-3-1-0 $166.040), trained by Drabfantasy

Last years winner of this race here and he is coming into this race off of a seventh place finish in the grade one Vosburgh where he got beat a length. He definitely looks like the toughest runner in here to me and I think that he is the horse to beat.

4. Great Creep (16-6-2-1 $321.440), trained by John Henry

An old Drabfantasy runner but John Henry bought him and ran him in the Darnell Handicap in his last start where he ran sixth. He is a stakes winner but he is outmatched by the two runners next to him unfortunately I think. He should run third or fourth in my opinion.

5. Five Ghosts (10-5-2-3 $202.610), trained by Drabfantasy

The winner of the 2016 running of this race is coming back to try and get another win in this race three years later. He has been very lightly raced in his career but he has never been out of the top three in ten starts. He should be top two in this race.

Summary

Well to me it seems fairly obvious that the two Drabfantasy runners look very tough to beat in here. I am going to go with Kapa Gold as the top choice but I think Five Ghosts is going to give him all the he can handle in here. Good luck to all in the field.
