2/2 The Forward Gal Stakes – Grade III [KYO]
GP Race #8 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $150.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Speedy Ginger The Sidley Stud Ortiz J L
A daughter of the great Ginger Haggis she didnt start her career so well beaten out of sight in a couple of lower level maidens but made some amends when breaking through in a state bred at FL. She finished off the year in a couple of ungraded stakes beaten a nose in one and then wining the House Party at GP to finish off the year. Although her sire loved a trip she has looked best in her works and on the track at seven furlongs or less so this race should fit nicely. Something to prove at this level but a good run would not surprise.
2 Huzza John Henry Talamo J
I fell in love with this filly when she came from miles back to win the Lynbrook last summer in Zenyatta like fashion and then followed it up with another swooping late run to in the Adirondack. She then layed up a bit closer in the Chandelier and the BC Juvenile fillies and though not beaten far was never a winning threat. John Henry bought her after those failures and brought her back in trip to seven furlongs for her seasonal debut in the Santa Ynez. More prominent she ran well to be second but i couldnt help but wonder of she wasnt a better filly when held up for the late late finish. She gets another chance today and i hope she runs well.
3 Blazing By Mb Stables Bejarano R
This filly looked very good in winning 4 races as a juvenile but wasnt so impressive in the other three which may come down in a large part to the variety of trips she raced over. She was impressive in the DMR Debutante over this trip but a bit weak over a mile and sixteenth in both the Chandelier and the BC Juvenile Fillies so it may be perfect for her to drop back to the seven furlongs today. Her works are strong and the draw perfect so i fully expect a big effort from her.
4 Tenrikyo Smokey Stover Ortiz I Jr
Lightly raced but the winner of two from three her works are suggesting she is up to this and she hails from the inform stable of the moment. A shock winner? The 1.10 and 2 work says its not mpossible.
5 Love Struck Baby D J C Racing Stables Velazquez J R
This filly won her first four races in a row by a nose including the grade one Spinaway over this trip. A pretty amazing coincidence but it also shows just how big her will to win is. She failed in the BC Juvenile fillies and was a brave third in the Starlet after that but those two efforts did make me wodner whether she was more of a sprinter than a router. She gets what i think may be her best trip here with her regular jockey and a great draw. Once again hse’s not the fastest worker in the field but she has a heart as big as New York and will be in this race all the way.
6 Lewis Bay M.a.r Racing Esquivel E
A daughter of Forever Steel she finds a tough field today to try and break her maiden. Her best form has been on turf which is another tough hurdle to overcome but her dirt works arent terrible so though i doubt she will win she may run well enough to be in the top half of the field.
7 Two Grins Estero Farms Gallardo A A
She has won three from five including two ungraded stakes and is another whose best form has been at this trip. Bought for just a $1.000 she has proved very good and her trainer will be hoping she can take another step up the ladder today. She’s not the worst, she’s not the best so i am struggling with where to map her in this field but she is a tough little filly who has every chance.
8 Chelimar M.a.r Racing Jaramillo E
Took a while to win her maiden and has struggled a bit since. All her form has been on turf and her dirt works are slow so i dont think she will be winning today.
9 Lucky Pivot Serenity Stables Castellano J J
Took her maiden on debut but was a shade disappointing after that until running fairly well in the Pocahontas and then winning the Anoakia Stakes. She finished off the season well enough with a fifth in the Starlet and sits here with something to prove. Her works are good and the trip should suit so she goes in the hat with the hopefuls in this.
10 Highland Panther Axeman Bridgmohan S X
Another with some strong works and fair form, she may just be a better chance than some of the others who look similar on paper. She was very consistent up until her failure in the Santa Ynez and shouldnt be able to beat Huzza on that form but that was a bit out of character for her so i expect better today. The wide draw and works that seem to be heading the wrong way are a concern and i have a feeling this race will be her last chance to prove herself at this level.
11 Cheetah Angelos Stable Garcia Alan
Fair works and good form put her in the ruck with a few others but the draw will make it tough for her as it did last time out at allowance level.I think her best chance will be if she can go back as she did when drawn wide in the Schuylerville but that leaves a lot to luck which she may need to win this race.
12 Make You Blush Rampage Stable Hernandez B J Jr
I would like her chances far more if she wasnt drawn in the car park but that may turn out to be OK if she can get a good trip because we have seen plenty of wide drawn horses circle the field and still run well. She was only beaten a length when fourth in the Spinaway and the same in the Shuylerville when sixth so you have to respect her if she can find a way round this draw.
SUMMARY
I cant get away from Huzza in this race but it will be tough for her with Blazing By, Tenrikyo and Love Struck Baby in the field.
