How about last beat four lengths… that explains how competitive these TC prep races really are. Or some such nonsense… Saturday’s Gotham Mile (GIII) was closer to our morning line than that of the track, but we still missed the winner and that stings. La Canada Racehorses gets the job done as Mr Cockypants makes it three wins in a row, taking this stepping tone by a half length, while stopping the clock at 1:35.05, over the Fast AQU main track. The bay gelded son of No Doubt Bronze – Ratting Old Beater, by Timber Rattler is proving to be quite the sharp purchase, coming out of the Sep 24 Auction for just $36.010, and that must sting for the seller. Now with two consecutive stakes wins, this one is fast-tracking (pardon the pun) his way to the KYD. Congrats to the connections!
We did have the second and third place finishers on our tickets as Mb Stables charges take both spots. Dunked On Shambo made a huge run down the lane, just missing the big prize and keeping his near-miss, runner-up streak going. That’s three consecutive seconds.. talk about due for a win. Watch this one as the distances increase.
His stable mate, Obi Wan, making his first start for the new connections, set a disputed pace throughout but just couldn’t hold the lead as the went down the lane, settling for the show. He was the post time favorite, and certainly has nothing to hang his head about, only three-quarters of a length off of the winner.
Legalise closed to take a multi-horse photo for the minor money, another that has three consecutive close-up finishes, while not being able to nail down a victory. He’s another that looks to be clambering for a bit more ground, and should prove a tough foe to those that see him down the TC Trail.
