La Terrifiant spent the first 39 races of her career competing against the best fillies and mares in all of HRP. For her 40th start, she finally tried the boys in the $300.000 G2 DMR Mile. Safe to say that the fellas found out what all of their girlfriends have been telling them, “That girl is a BOSS!”
Running in about the three path, La Terrifiant sat in third behind Boston Harbor and Homme de Guerre (racing at least four wide) through an openinig quarter in:23.27. Ohtani, in the two path, and Hollywood Command, on the rail, travelled just inside the eventual winner and were perfectly content with their situation.
The top two remained unchanged through a half-mile in :46.86 with Boston Harbor enjoying about a length advantage on Homme de Guerre who had moved to just off of her flank. Hollywood Command stuck to the rail and had gotten on even terms with La Terrifiant in 3rd and 4th, respectively, while Ohtani bided his time in fifth from the two-path.
When they hit three-quarters in 1:09.36, Boston Harbor was still leading, but she was taking on water from all corners. Homme de Guerre was still 2nd, but Hollywood Command was splitting horses from 4th and that pushed him out another path. La Terrifiant had tipped at least four wide and begun to put in her challenge with Atomic Eclipse ranging even wider just off of her flank. Ohtani had to wait for the traffic to clear while waiting to unleash his run from 6th.
La Terrifiant struck the front just as the horses reached the top of the lane proceeded to increase her advantage through the stretch before hitting the wire in a sharp 1:32.55. In the end, it would be Hollywood Command finishing 2nd, about a length behind the Smokey Stover mare. Homme de Guerre ran a terrific race to finish third and was followed by Atomic Eclipse, a tough luck Ohtani, Boston Harbor, and Roman Rage.
With the win, La Terrifiant (Pinkman o/o Cest Creepy) improves to 40-16-7-5 with earnings of $6,455.000 and earns 6 points towards a birth in the G1 BC Mile. Hollywood Command secured four BC points for his place effort while Homme de Guerre took home two points for running 3rd. The win certainly gives trainer Smokey Stover another avenue to explore for his wonder filly as she could conceivably run in the 4th different BC division of her remarkable race career.
