5 AQU The Long Island (GIII)
$250.000 3yo&Up F&M 1 3/8m Turf 3yo 121lbs Older 124lbs
We have an early scratch so it looks like nine will be headed to the gate for The Long Island (GIII) going a mile and three eights on the AQU turf this Saturday. I’m headed to the outside post and Too Scared To Party to get the job done here. She had three wins in a row prior to running fourth on BC Day, certainly nothing to be ashamed of. She looks the one to me. I’ll take Marbles Blitz in the second spot off of that last out win in her first turf try at BEL. She really seems to like the move to the grass and the 3yo has room to grow.
It’s a nice group of ladies and I would say just about any of these have a shot at the win.
Here’s The Field –
Pressed the pace to deep stretch in the BC F&M Turf (GI) before tiring and ended up eighth. Has four wins this season, all stakes races and three at the graded level. She has been tough in every start this year and should be in the middle of this one as well.
Only a single win this year and that came at the OptAlw level at HAW, but she just missed in the Taylor (GI) which is certainly a head turner. That was a serious race for this one and takes her from a long-shot to a horse with a real chance here.
Hasn’t seen the winner’s circle since July and only has a couple of fourths in her last four races, so it’s time for a wake up or I’d have to think she’s on a short list for this mega stable. She’s been working well, so maybe she can turn it around.
Three wins this season and was second two back before a tiring fifth in the Rodeo Drive (GI). She’s won a couple of marathon races by daylight so you have to respect her ability, that’s for sure.
Five wins this year, so that’s a head-turner right off of the bat, but her last pair have been less than exciting as she was seventh at DMR and then fifth at BEL going a flat mile. She’s going to have to find some of that old form or it’s going to be another long day at the race track.
She shows three wins this season and closed a bit of ground to end up ninth beaten ninth in the BC F&M Turf (GI) beaten two lengths in the big race. She’s a real nice race filly that has nine wins over the past two seasons. Can she bounce back from that BC race?
Six wins this season, so there’s no doubt she knows how to get the job done. Took the Athenia (GIII) last out in her first trip over the turf strip, so she should be an interesting one to watch in this race. She may have some odds to boot.
Has three wins this year but it’s been June since she had her picture taken. She was a tiring third going a mile at BEL last out in the Sands Point (GII) but she must be considered for part if she can hold her speed a bit.
Made a nice late run in the BC F&M Turf (GI) to end up fourth beaten a length. She also has four wins this season and despite catching the outside post, I think she could be the one to beat today.
