BC Fillies & Mares Turf – Grade I
1 3/8 Mile Turf Stake Purse $2,000.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.
1st Lady Hilltopper Black N Gold Stable Velazquez J R
Everything fell into place for this great mare today as she finally won the race everyone knew she deserved. Nothing was stopping her today not even the suicidal pace set up by the great mare Painville which saw her fall further back than she has been for a while. In truth, though it may have been a hard watch for her owner through the first half mile, positioning in these races with our digital horses mean very little, it is all about pace and then all about where the blocks come. So, with positioning a non-issue, it all came down to blocks and today they could’ve built Trumps wall and nothing would’ve stopped her. She flew home to win in a way that is as dominant as any horse can win a BC race and whilst as a form purist you may call into question how she has been defeated at all this year, there is no doubt on balance of form she is the best female in the game at the moment, certainly on turf.
Congratulations to Black N Gold Stable and this wonderful race mare.

The failure of HRP to deal with the dead heat situation reared its ugly head again but I for one, could not complain about these two sharing runner up spot. This brilliantly consistent mare stalked the great Painville at a lung busting pace and whilst that effort would’ve left her vulnerable at the end, she still ran on with all the heart we expect. Nothing would’ve beaten the winner today, but this mare will be back next year to try and go one better.
2nd= Mami Alydar Stables Zayas E J
Cemented her place as best three-year-old turf filly with a brave effort and a share of second against some of the greats of HRP. Just off the speed horses she finished with heart but just couldn’t reel in the win. Of all the great finishers in this first four she would be the one you would want to own for the next three years.
4th Painville Mo Mentum Farm Geroux F
Well, from the gate it looked impossible but going to the lead for the first time in two years she was clearly given her head to try and win an historic third victory. She had them all off the bridle for much of the trip and it has to be said this was a huge effort from the great champion. Whether it was the trainer’s choice or an AI choice there will always be a question hanging over this effort, would different tactics have seen a third win? Or was this just a Hail Mary for a mare approaching her twilight years. Either way she made this race a spectacle as she always does whether she is winning or in defeat she will go down in history as one of the best female racers to grace the game.
But, maybe, I may be premature in my summary of her great career, just maybe as an eight year she will come out and take her third title, here’s hoping !!
