1 Copper Maiden Nakamura Stables Geroux F 120 —
Took three goes until she broke her maiden at FE and then ran a great race with a hard closing fifth in the ELP Debutante from a terrible draw. I liked her chances in the Glorious Song after that, but she was a pretty non-de-script seventh from a much better draw and it did bring up the question as to whether she was up to this level.
2 Takoshi Greyfriars Stable Beschizza A 120 —
Went hard on pace to win her maiden over six furlongs but the same tactics saw her weaken badly over the mile last time out. Back to a trip to suit with the perfect draw I expect her to be up on speed and more competitive in this race.
3 Marquesa Threshold Centeno D E 120 —
Claimed cheaply on debut she got her maiden win at ALB last time and looks to step up here.
4 Indian Angie Night Rider Stables Gaffalione T 120 —
A consistent type with a touch of class she has yet to run a bad race and I expect her to be a big part of the finish here. She hasn’t been as handy from wider draws in her last two so this better draw will suit her today.
5 Flouted TwinTowersRacing Franco M 120 —
Beaten three times in dirt maidens before winning on the turf last time, this stable loves a challenge and she switches back to the main track here to try and break her dirt maiden. Her works are pretty sharp on turf, so it remains to be seen what she can do today.
6 Statuette D J C Racing Stables Lopez P 120 —
Ran a cracker in the Maid Of The Mist over a mile last time coming home strongly for a close third. That effort suggested she may need further than this trip to be at her very best, but she may only have to be near her best to win this.
7 Senitment Fractious Saez L 120 —
A very impressive maiden win over this trip signaled improvement with that effort and I really like her to use her wider draw to get the lead again today and be hard to beat. The trainer has had a good year and looks to finish it off strongly with this one.
8 Lady Lara Night Mare Racing Davila J R Jr 120 —
Won on debut and is setting the track alight in her works so the only thing that may stop her remaining unbeaten today may be the wide draw. Going on her running style on debut she may go back from this gate so she will need race engine luck to find her way home.
9 Bottomless Mimosas Mb Stables Velazquez J R 120 —
Won her maiden at SAR over this trip from a wide gate so it will hold no fears for her today. She has had a little excursion onto the turf recently, but you don’t win maidens at Saratoga if you can’t act on the surface, so I am not worried about her return to the main track today. Her works are in the ballpark and a top four finish looks likely.
SUMMARY
I think Lady Lara looks good for this, but she will have to overcome the wide draw with very little experience to win. Of the rest, well, there won’t be much between a good few but maybe Statuette will be strong enough to take second.
